While I would not be opposed to more ATDI... Volta is a completely different beast, as is Sparta. I enjoy all three immensely. Personally, I'd rather have the Volta and Sparta than just ATDI... now, if we could have all three...

For the record, I wasnt referring to Mars Volta as "obscure". I was referring to Viva la Penis' music selection as obscure in relation to the 1000 CDs of garage rock/indie rock he so covets all the while thinking his unique (ie obscure) taste in music somehow differentiates him from the "mainstream".

Actually, I have Frances the Mute. I liken it to a modern Pink Floyd in the sense that they are certainly different than other music out there, in my experience anyway.
But yeah, I like songs I can understand to a point. I like opera, and I dont understand a fucking word those WOPs are saying, but its beautiful.
Volta is just a little too out there, but I see the inclination, just not my bag.

GnR, Maiden, Priest, Typo Negative, Tool, Metallica, Slayer, Venom, Celtic Frost, RATM, Pearl Jam, Pilots and Peppers.
Then the various listening depending on mood....Al Green, CCR, Pavoratti, Luciano, etc.

While I certainly agree Tool has its share of really dumb, extremely long pointless "songs", its the sum of the parts that make the whole.
And if you dont see the distinct difference between "Hey, I can understand what he said!" and "What the hell did he/she just say?", then I cant help you. Yes, as it pertains to music, I prefer it in English. And please dont compare Volta to opera. When Volta hits the 300 year mark of music circulation (same with Tool, btw) call me.
Judging by your general lack of fundamental reading skills and comprehension, I shouldnt be all that surprised.

c) Do you know the names of Tom Cruise's baby with Kate? With Kidman? Angelina and Brad?
d) Are you willing to start threads with the distinct purpose of peer-sympathy with your problem(s)?
e) If 'D' is true, will you get equally offended when someone calls you out as an attention whore in said thread(s)?
f) Will you join and maintain 'cliques' so that if a member of your clique is somehow wronged, you'll posse up and bring the offender to e-justice?

i was only estimating. i thought i was overshooting. im not dr phil with a degree from north texas, but its safe to say that 1,000 posts per month (and not getting paid for it) can't be a sign of a healthy individual.

getting the best flight available in the free market is not the same as booking any flight at all. you bend facts to justify yr unjustifiable points in a way to recalls bill clinton schilling for hillary.
by asking for the help of others, I extended my range of options to include websites and businesses that I inevitably didn't have firsthand knowledge of.

if you find a thread about coltrane, it won't consist of teenagers talking about how long tracks lasted when they were played live.
as i said in the first place, length for the sake of length isn't really a virtue. the claim you are arguing against, that musicians with extraordinarily long songs are automatically bad, was never made by me or anyone else. (strawman, yes yes?)

what about length for the sake of taking an established song and adding something new to it? the last show i went to was qotsa in dallas. they took a song that they wrote in 1998 and basically changed everything about it except for the words. different guitar, different drums, different everything.
it was 10 minutes long as opposed to the original songs length of about 4 minutes.
