View Full Version : This is why PHX will never win a title

When the going gets tough and championship teams like SAS turn on the pressure they fold like tortillas. PHX is at full strength playing a depleted Spurs team @ home and they still find a way to choke the game away. Unbelievable.

The Suns can't D up to save their lives. The Spurs are without Tony Parker and they still manage to get beat. Ouch.

As good as that Spurs win was to earn for our hobbling squad for our regular season momentum, it still is pretty meaningless overall.

Except when the Spurs folded at home earlier this year against the Suns.

Guess that was a fluke win for them. Like it was a fluke for Amare to miss 5 FTs.

Your Suns just lost to a depleted Spurs team that looks old and slow, and very obviously did so because their sphincters were puckering. The Timberwolves probably would have beaten the Spurs soundly the way they played last night.

If you want to convince yourself that the same thing happened in reverse during the previous game in San Antonio, you're welcome to your delusions. You can cling tightly to the glory of that regular-season win come playoff time, when the Suns exit the playoffs early because they still don't have the heart or spine to get it done when it counts.

I'm clinging to the fact that Manu dribbled the ball of Diaw's foot and Duncan missed countless easy baskets near the end of that game, while Nash and Hill hit some big shots.

The exact opposite occured this time. Duncan hit a tough bank shot, Amare missed a FT and the Suns couldn't shoot worth a shit in the final 5 minutes. I love this "we're depleted" argument because it's the same one used when the Spurs lost their first home game of the season in December.

Back in early December, both teams were playing fairly well and the Suns won a quality game. Last night was not a quality game.

How is it that the game last night was close enough that the Spurs were even in a position to make plays at the end? The Spurs have played like garbage for six weeks now, and last night was more of the same. They sucked. How on earth did the Suns lose? Why wasn't the final 101-84?

Offensively, they'd been inconsistent. They closed out games better, but that's against Milwaukee, so it doesn't count.

PHX is the perfect regular season team. Too bad they dont hand out trophies in Januray.

Like Barkley said, "when the toughest guy on your team is a kicker, your not gonna win". Truer words have never been spoken.

Sorry - Tony Parker did not play in that game either - the Spurs were not a full strength for that one either and the Suns had to make plays at the end to win. Not a comforting thought for the Suns is it?

TP has gone though the Suns like a hot knife through butter for awhile. Nash cannot keep up with him.

If (this may be a big if this year) the Spurs can bring a relatively healthy roster into the playoffs, regardless of seeding (1-8), they can be successful again. Phoenix is always vulnerable because they only play one end of the court.

I guess last night, they didn't play offense?

You're basing your entire offense on Tony Parker... who had maybe 2 good games in the WCSF last year.

He had 2 "off"/"bad" games in that series, out of 6. He scored 30+ twice. With the entire Suns defense focused on stopping him.

Phoenix was never expected to win a championship..so we can't really say "this is why PHX will never win a title", because they have never actually been a real contender...
