We're running a guessing game in my house today.
Our list of possibilities so far:

Runnin' Down A Dream
I Won't Back Down
Refugee
Free Fallin'
Into The Great Wide Open
Don't Come Around Here No More
Even The Losers
American Girl-(I'm not sure he'll play this after Hillary Clinton used it in the backround last week. Petty was asked who he was supporting in the race, he said that no one wanted political advice from a guitar player. I think he may not use it because of that incident.)

Who cares? It will be time to take a leak, fix another
sandwich, get another cold one, take another leak and
settle back down for FOOTBALL. Halftime will be over
if you time everything right.

Who cares?

I do.
I'm a Petty fan.

I tend to watch the half time show even if I'm not thrilled with who's performing. It's all part of the game to me. It's an event, from start to finish.

Petty opens with American Girl.
Follows with I Won't Back Down.
Switches guitars and wraps it up with Free Fallin'.

He's one of my all- time favorites, the band I've seen the most live.
I thought they were great. (Although I've seen them much better.)

The stage was cool, his logo, with the guitar through it.

A Petty FYI:

Best Buy has a 3 DVD, 1 CD set that only they're selling.
Two DVD's are the movie/documentory of their career, the other DVD is the 30th anniversary concert in Gainesville Florida. The CD is alternative versions of some of his hits and some unreleased stuff.
It's a nice package.

There's a coffee table book that is a match to it, I got that at Barnes and Noble.

Good calls D228! I saw Tom Petty about 20 yrs ago and I was surprised by how funny and talkative he was. And in my opinion tonight's show was one of the best for the Superbowl, if you take into consideration sound quality and presentation. Tickets go on sale here tomorrow for Tom Petty in August; I'm getting some! :)

I've seen them somewhere between 20 and 30 times. I never missed an opportunity to catch them live. I walked out of one show, they were that bad. Every other one remains some of the best concerts I've ever seen. They have great energy, they always mix the set up, pull covers out and rock all night.

What's the difference? They're all whiny slow crap. Too bad they couldn't get U2 like in 02; that was sweet.

Yeah, Prince is one of the greatest songwriters out there. A lot of people's favorite pop songs were written by Prince and no one knows it.

I'm more of a rock fan, but there's some pop that's okay to me, and Prince is one of those artists. Some of his stuff is a little gay to me, but he's got some good stuff too.

Phil Collins would be another mostly pop guy that's cool in my book.

I liked Runnin' Down a Dream and American Girl...but I thought Free Fallin' and I Won't Back Down were too slow for the Superbowl....I think Even the Losers and The Waiting would have been better choices.

I could say the same about Rush. But without the walking out of a show part.

:music

I've seen TP and the HB's twice now. They put on a great show. Might just have to get some ducats to this upcoming show. Winwood opening. Sweet!

Save your money for Zeppelin reunion tour next fall. Going to be like $500 a ticket though.

I was hoping that since it was a special occasion and all they'd have Stan Lynch back on drums. But I suppose those bridges have long been burned!

Petty kicked ass.
I'm disappointed we didn't get "Last Dance with Mary Jane".
That would've kicked all sorts of ass.

When is GWAR going to get booked to do the halftime show?
THAT would undoubtedly be the best halftime show ever!

You'd think that the NFL would've had the foresight to cash in on getting Led Zeppelin for the halftime show. I was having a discussion with someone about that yesteday.
Going by the look of the general demographic of the crowd that surrounded the stage, about how many people do you think that were down in the front even knew who the hell Tom petty is?
