An underachieving guy I've envisioned on the Spurs for years now goes to the Nets for crap.
I hate small-market mentality.

An underachieving guy
Which is a big part of the reason Memphis and Houston were playing hot potato with him.

Seems like change for the sake of change. I'm not sure what Swift offers that Elson doesn't. Except for the fact that he has a player option this off-season to make upwards of $6M....which he'll likely exercise.
If it's between Swift and Elson, I'm actually gonna say keep Elson b/c his contract is shorter.
Good God I just said I'd keep Elson in a certain situation....I feel dirty.

Nets deal Collins to Grizzlies for Swift
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- The New Jersey Nets acquired Memphis Grizzlies forward Stromile Swift on Monday for center Jason Collins and cash.
The 6-foot-10 Swift is expected to add athleticism to the frontcourt of the Nets, who have lost 10 of their last 12 games. Swift averaged 6.8 points and 3.7 rebounds in seven seasons with Memphis and one with the Houston Rockets.
The former LSU star spent his first five seasons with the Grizzlies. He was traded to Houston before the 2005-06 season and traded back to Memphis last season.
Collins was drafted by Houston in 2001 and traded to the Nets on draft night in a deal for Eddie Griffin that also sent Richard Jefferson to New Jersey. He was a member of the Nets' NBA Finals teams in 2002 and 2003 and has averaged 4.4 points and 4.5 rebounds over seven seasons.

According to TrueHoop, two other players that the Spurs have rights to and could include in a deal are Nick Van Exel and Glenn Robinson. I have no idea, from a CBA or cap standpoint how that's possible and don't feel the desire to figure it out at the moment, but it is apparently true (in the same way that the Lakers were able to include Aaron McKie (now a Sixers' assistant coach) in the Gasol deal).

They have their "rights". They are not taking up cap but can be used as trade filler. It's a smart GM move, not a dumb one.

Those of you who simply hate can all go F' yourselves.
One thing I can't stand is homers who like treading water.
Swift is easily better than any bigs we currently have not named Duncan.

That's fine... I am just sick of fans here who are in love with treading water.
We see Gasol go to the Lakers for crap and shrug our shoulders.
Sue me for not getting overly excited about salvaging another 30+ player from the waiver wire.

Understandable. I am sure the Spurs are looking to trade. I have no doubt that they're trying to find a way to move someone.

I'm not sure what Stromile Swift has ever done to support that sort of statement. He's undoubtedly more athletic than any of the Spurs bigs; but we've seen time and again in the NBA that the ability to jump out of the gym or to throw down powerful dunks is basically irrelevant if there's nothing else there. Swift has a numbers performance every now and again, but he's proven himself to be essentially worthless to every team that's ever taken a long look at him. He's reached the point that he's a throw-in player when deals get made and he's a guy who gets traded by a lottery team for an expiring contract. He's vastly overpaid for what he is and his contract is prohibitive.
I don't think it's a belief in treading water for some of us to think that no trade is better than a bad trade.

It's not hate to say that Swift makes Elson and Nazr before him look like geniuses, it's the fact I have eyes that work. If Elson is still getting defensive rotations mixed up, Swift would be lucky to be at the right end of the court in the Spurs system.
Of course, he would be able to jump really high, dunk, and yell.
