Second leading scorer. 16 points on 7-8 from the field, including 4 very athletic shots made on drives to the hoop.
5 assists and a steal. Not bad work for a third string floor general with no outside shot. I could not have been more impressed.

Yeah Vaughn was good tonight.
The Stoudamire signing and the 4 days off obviously lit a fire under the jayhawk.

Vaughn was GREAT tonight. He took advantage of what was clearly a porous interior defense and foul trouble for Foster. Efforts like that from the role players is what will keep the Spurs competitive down the stretch as they let Tony and others get healthy and prepared for a deep playoff run.

And now that's two great games in a row for him because he was pretty impressive against the Suns in that weird game too. Props to JV!
I think he is the sort of guy that plays best when pushed by a competitor, and now he has Damon to keep him on his toes. Damon played well today today, especially for his first game. Good signs all around.

That's because they just left him open, and dared him to shoot.
Last night, he actually looked like he has figured out the offensive end.
If Vaughn will continue to play like this, I will take back every bad thing I ever said about him.
If JV and Damon can combine for 27 every night, Tony can sit and heal completely. And I actually think Damon was defering to others most of the night. Guess he didn't want to come in a get an immediate rep as a shoot first guard. I could see them combining for over 30 and 8 per night. That would be great.

I just watched the Suns game from last week, and in the first half JV was one of the reasons we stuck around. He made 3 Js and 3 nice penetrations, and he showed more of the latter today. It's almost as if Damon's arrival has given him an extra step of pace! And of course, his harassing D is always great.
Damon deferred in the 1st half, then shot in the second as he became comfortable. He only turned it over once on a reckless drive to the hoop when he got blocked, although he has 0 TOs on the boxscore, so maybe that was JV (although I pretty clearly remember it as MM). Just what we need from him - nothing flashy, just solid minutes and open Js knocked down.

No complaints from me.
Not bad for a 3rd string PG.
If JV's now motivated to fight like hell with DS for backup PG, excellent!

Stating the obvious. Others assumed it, you just verbalized it.

Um, no.
Go back and look at all the threads from last week.
Homers such as yourself contended that Vaughn would start and also be Parker's primary backup upon his return.
I disagreed vehemently.

Holy shit, after 24 years in the league he finally learned how to drive, rather than settling for an 18 footer. If he can keep this up against an interior force-of-nature such as Jeff Foster, he has basically proven he can score at will.
Alright, I'll give him props if he does this 5 more times this season. That's not asking too much is it?

Finally learned how to drive? He's been driving all season..
It's like he has a good game then the bandwagon haters come on here and say "Let's see him do it again."

I didn't post much last week. Do I have to go back and read your posts? I certainly don't place any value on whether Jacque Vaughn starts or not. He will still get plenty of minutes...he got 25 last night.
To me, it's a connect the dots situation. Damon's the new PG, Tony's hurt. Play him with Tim and the 1st unit to gain familiarity. It's a no-brainer.

I should've specified further....he figured out how to drive without resulting in his dribbling the ball off his foot, passing it to the opposition, or generally pissing me off. In other words, last night he finished his drives with a Successful Baskie, consistently, for the first time all year.
Again, I'll stop giving him shit if he continues to drive successfully (this includes setting up open 9 foot baseline shots for fab to brick) 5 more games this season. I'm that skeptical.
