View Full Version : Manu / Oberto: Kiss Cam

My sister went to the game in DC tonight. She said that the Kiss Cam was moving around the arena and locked in on Manu and Oberto.

The crowd started making alot of noise, prompting Manu to look up at the jumbotron. Manu complied by clutching Oberto's head and giving him a kiss on the side of his head. Oberto was apparently clueless as to what was going on. They were both sitting on the bench at the time.

I thought that was pretty funny.

"Ginobili and Oberto were good sports when their faces were shown on the big screen during the "Kiss Me" timeout, an in-house promotion in which fans are encouraged to get their dates a smooch. Ginobili leaned over and gave his teammate a peck on the side of the head."

:lol YouTube clip, anyone?

why wouldnt they? they are there solely for the entertainment of the fans -- thats all. I'll be damned if they won't act along with the arena's games

The Verizon Center does some whack sh1t.

Believe this or not, they actually scroll across the bottom of the Jumbotron which promotional game is coming up next.

I guess thats a new thing b/c they didn't have the jumbotron they do now from last year's game against SA.

Yah, I was at the game too... It was one of the highlights of the night for sure. I was happy to see Manu play along. Instead of shrugging it off or getting upset about it like many would have done, Manu made the camera crew look like a bunch of asses by having fun with it. I've got pictures of the game (not of the kiss) and I'll post them later if anyone is interested in seeing.

There were a ton of Spurs fans there. I dunno if it was 10%, but it sounded that way by the crowd noise.

I know one of the groups they propped on the scoreboard was a Trinity University Alumni group.

True. I was actually really disappointed by the Wizards fans. The Spurs fans seemed to be nearly as loud as the Wizards fans at times. IMO that's a terrible shame if you're a Wizards fan.

DC is really a one-team town. With the exception of the Redskins, if you're not winning, they don't particularly care one way or another.

There were about five college guys in the row in front of me. About a minute into the game one of them said to another, "Hey, no Tony Parker?" Then, midway through the second quarter, with the score around 32-31, another guy piped up, "Wow, this is a weird game, not a lot of scoring." It was as if they had never heard of the Spurs before.

:lol excellent!

Let's face it, Manu and Oberto have seen each other naked in many a shower room, won championships and world titles together... what's a bit of man-love to them?

BTW, I remember watching the crowd behind the basket when Manu was shooting FTs and there were 3 people trying to distract him. Tamest crowd evah!

Did you guys happen to catch the starting lineup intro where the jumbotron had "quirky" little snippets about each starting player?

Manu's said something like "Has only earned 6 starts this year"
Damon's said "Only have 1 assist in previous game"
Oberto's said "Only averages 5 ppg"

I forget the other two for Bruce and Tim

This is not the first time Manu does something like that.
I was in '06 in the Palace watching Spurs-Pistons. The Smooch-cam as it's called in Detroit panned over Manu and Tony.
The crowd started to make some noise and both of them looked up to see their pictures framed by a heart. Tony looked like "Hey...I'm new here". A smirk appeared in Gino's face, he leaned over TP and...a peck to the cheek. Crowd went wild, laughing, and cheering. A guy sitting in front of me (had already seen my Ginobili jersey) turned around and told me: "This guy is a trip, man"

Fans everwhere really enjoy when stars act like normal people. No thumping in the chest, no looks of superiority. This is what the Spurs are all about: class-act players that don't care about fame, they just care to win and have fun.
