Based on the results of the first two games, he's run the offense better than expected and moved the ball briskly. We all know the guy can shoot.

i think he will be a solid contributor. he has a lot of quickness and showed that he could get people involved early last night in the Wizards game. Great spot up shooter. Duncan will have plenty of room inside with a lineup of Stoudamire at the point with Finley, Ginobili, and or Barry and Bonner or Horry on the floor as well.

Stoudamire has shown a nack for not just fitting in, but working very well within the offense. Hes in the perfect spots, his passes into the post look good, hes getting the ball moving on offense, hes also setting others up for shots as well (IE Bruce Bowen).

If Stoudamire can keep this up, the Spurs will have their best backup point guard since Speedy Claxton.

Now they just need either an athletic defensive big, and or the future swingman.

Yeah I can honestly say that I never saw him do that in Portland, Toronto, or Memphis. Very encouraging to see that he also is picking up on defensive rotations and assignments as well.
I said it in the Pacers game blog and I'll say it again. He honestly looks like hes been practicing with the team since October. Hes stepped in and the Spurs have gotten better, and not had to adjust to HIM.

To be fair, he was part of that Blazers team that was among the best in the league and extremely close to a championship in a Game 7 vs. the Lakers. But then, that was a crazy weird team with the insane (Rasheed) and good guys (Sabonis).

I was happy to hear he landed in San Antonio. I figured it would be a good addition. So far, he seems to be.

The guy's a former rookie of the year and 20 ppg scorer as a point guard on several playoff teams. He's no longer that type of gunner, but that's actually a good thing for the Spurs. You don't stick around the league as a starting PG for as long as he has without knowing how to initiate the offense, pass the ball, and set up teammates for good shots. He was let go by Memphis because they want to get their young kids experience, not because he couldn't play ball anymore. The main question mark with him coming to the Spurs was his commitment to defense with how important it is in Pop's system, but the early returns seem to show that he at least acknowledges that his PT will be based on defensive intensity as well.

The Spurs only weakness was backup PG; with a single practice, the guy is already productive. Yet another 3 pt. threat - gives a different look when Tony goes out, and he cannot be left alone. In close playoff games, he could be the difference.

So far, seems that my previous assessment about him no fitting in is unfounded. Still concerned about his defense, but his shot selection has been a pleasant surprise.
Well, now that he is a Spur, I am rooting for him.

He could have been a lot worse, and he's been surprisingly helpful considering he's brand new in a complex system.

He's looks very cool and confident, and JV seems to hustling to hang on to PT. Keep driving, JV, keep driving.

If Stoudamire were only a decent shooter he would be a very solid pick up and someone that could contribute down the stretch.....but he has been better thus far.

He doesn't know all of the offensive sets, but has already found a way to contribute without his shooting. As a veteran, he seems to understand when to shoot the ball and when to pass it off or run it through another player.

I think that's what was frustrating about Washington. Because he was young and inexperienced he didn't seem to understand that balance.

I'm esctatic that the Spurs were able to pick up a talented veteran and think he will pay GREAT dividends this year.

I've never thought of Stoudemire as anything but a shooter. He's hitting close to 40% on threes which is pretty darn good actually.

He's only a couple of seasons removed from a 54 point game. He can fill up the bucket...or could fill up the bucket at least.

I know TIMPV said it couldn't be done, but what the hell is the hurt in 1 more year? if it doesn't work out you let him go and sign up a D League guy.
