Kobe flashes some bling

Kobe Bryant was all over TV on Wednesday because of his legal troubles in Eagle, Colo. He also was on the taped 2003 Teen Choice Awards on Fox; he was named favorite male athlete. The awards show was taped last weekend, and Bryant was there with his wife, Vanessa.
(An interesting question from USA Today columnist Jon Saraceno: "Does anyone else find it odd that, before his legal difficulties, we never saw his spouse -- and now after he gets in an adulterous jam, he's wearing her on his wrist like she's some kind of legal charm bracelet?")
Anyway, at the Teen Choice show, Bryant wore a Muhammad Ali T-shirt and a large cross. He also wrongly quoted Martin Luther King.
Bryant: "An injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere."
Actual King quote: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
Meanwhile, The Star magazine reported that Bryant gave his wife more than the $4 million diamond ring in the wake of "indiscretion."
Also on the shopping list: a $65,000 Mercedes, a $76,000 Mercedes, $125,000 earrings, an $1,800 handbag, $315 shoes and $20,000 in Versace clothes. In addition, The Star reported that Bryant paid off the $230,000 mortgage on the home of Sofia Laine, Vanessa's mother.
And late-night talker Jay Leno had this to say: "According to tabloids, Kobe not only bought his wife a $4 million ring, he also bought her a $65,000 Mercedes and paid off a $230,000 mortgage on her mom's house. How many women were in that room? The whole cheerleading squad?"
