I got back from voting (in Virginia) an hour ago. This is the first time I've actually been excited about voting (in fact, the first time I've voted in the primaries). I've pretty much always voted Republican, but this time I couldn't wait to cast my vote for Obama. There were about ten people in line ahead of me and all of them said "democrat" when asked which primary they were voting in. Now, I hear he has won the state by a substantial margin. I'm thrilled.

If the media ever cared to let us know what the candidates' positions are we would find out that Clinton and Obama are very similar. Their criticisms of each other are based on "experience" and "hope" and mostly other silly issues.

One difference is that Clinton voted give permission for Bush to invade Iraq, but Obama did not, so "judgment" I think is on Obama's side.

I read that due to TX's fucked up way of appointing delegates, Hilary may actually be screwed here. They apportion delegates based on voting records in previous years, and mexicans don't turn out for shit compared to blacks. Therefore, if Hilary wins the many mexican dominated districts, and Obama wins the few black dominated districts, he still comes away with more delegates. In theory at least.

It'll come down to whether or not the white man wants a chick or a black guy to be his president. lol.

Obama will be fine. Hopefully he won't have an obstructionist legislature. The judiciary is already filled with maniacs, but a petty and venal legislature, on both sides, will be hard to overcome. At the very least Obama - or McCain, on this one - stands to pare down the insane unitary executive crap Bush and his minions have been pulling with the signing statements and extra-legal acts left and right.

McCain and Obama are far, far, far better than anything the Republican party has come up with for at least two decades.

but on the bright side of things, the Marriott Factor works both in this country and others. So an Obama frontrunning victory could only (temporarily) bolster the foreign opinion of our country, and he'll instantly be put on the spot to see if he can salvage our sagging international reputation. But that, and the plethora of upcoming domestic situations is a heavy plate. I hope he has enough experience to properly handle all of it. LOL.

America gets the government it wants. America gets the candidates it wants. Everyone bitches about the process, the candidates, and the policies, but how many get involved and actually make an effort to change any of that? When a candidate shows up offering something different than mainstream conventional wisdom they are almost immediately regarded as dangerous and a kook. And heaven forbid we actually have more than 2 "choices" on election day. Due to good ol' American laziness we need everything simplified for us. Don't make us have to think. The Constitution? I think we learned about that in middle school.

We need the media to tell us what to think so they can poll us and tell us what the majority of people heard when they told us what to think. We also need the two party "system" to be protected. Competition? Well, that's great when you're shopping for a car but we can't let the people have too much of that in their government.

It's strange, our politics. Here in an age when the body of human knowledge is available in miliseconds at our fingertips we cannot be bothered to actually learn more. We'd rather spend that time googling '2 girls 1 cup'.

So we end up with a candidates who either want to turn back centuries of authoritarian rule in the Middle East at the point of a gun or those who want to improve our lives through their various heavy handed schemes at the cost of us having any say in the matter or actually enjoying a competitive marketplace. But make no mistake, the American worker will be subjected to ever increasing competition because it benefits those who pay the fee to the ruling class. Even while those fees result in uncompetitive goodies for their employers.

The whole thing stinks, but at the end of the day, we've earned it.
