The Knicks are shopping Randolph and Curry,
http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/50817/20080212/exec_knicks_trying_to_deal_curry_randolph/

"According to columnist Mitch Lawrence, it is unclear what Isiah Thomas is asking for in return...The Knicks are hoping to hold onto David Lee, Nate Robinson and Jamal Crawford in any trade."

Assuming he wants expiring contracts... Are you interested in the following trade:

Zach Randolph, Renaldo Balkman

for

Barry, Bonner, Elson, Horry

Assuming a pre-existing deal to buy out Barry and Horry for the Spurs to re-sign for the vet min.

Duncan/Oberto
Randolph/Horry/ ?Balkman?
Bowen/Udoka/ ?Balkman?
Ginobli/Finley/Barry
Parker/Vaughn/Barry

It may be the counsel of desperation, but suddenly SA's Big men look like they can suddenly compete with LA's. I still like it against the Suns. And if I can get Balkman, I'd love to see him vs. Nowitzki against Dallas. He'd also give us a nice 15 mpg against Garnett.

Salary Cap wise, this year, it's not bad. Net gain is 2 vet min salaries, and a savings of $260,000. However, Randolph's contract balloons till 2010/11. Therefore, I don't think we'd do it... Maybe if we thought we could get rid of Randolph during the offseason without screwing ourselves with worse contracts...

Randolph is a cancer and can't play D

NO.

Randolph has a low bball IQ, is cancerous and lives in the post. Why would we want him?

Balkman for an expiring contract sounds interesting, although he'd be no help this year and i also worry about his BB IQ.

Can someone please tell me why people are sold on getting rid of Barry and or Horry? I can understand Elson and Bonner, but what's the obssesion with ditching those guys?

I'll respectfully say no to anyone big with the Knicks other than David lee.

The end.

Balkman would be great, but if it involves getting Randolph as well I'd say no. He is a great offensive player, but his D sucks. And if we need anything it's another big who can't rebound.

for the 1000th time, there is no way Spurs would trade Big Shot

Rebound rate this season (from Knickerblogger.net stats page), in descending order
Tim Duncan 19.6
Zach Randolph 17.8
Fabricio Oberto 15.6
Francisco Elson 15.2
Matt Bonner 13.7
Robert Horry 10.8

Zach Randolph has many a flaw. He's a black hole on Offence, and he's a bad defender. But he is a better rebounder than anybody on our team except Duncan.

Spurs would be dumb to do that.

No.

And we explained why not in many other threads.

Curry and Randolph are black hole post scorers who do not block shots.

He is finally the Barry we originally wanted!!

Just needs to get healthy.

Artest, Randolph...

Do people not realize that the Spurs just get character players nowadays? Is it really that hard to comprehend?

Randolph makes no sense at all for Spurs.
Trading Horry makes no sense at all.
Even if Spurs get him back, they will have to wait 30 days to do that. Pop has spend a lot of time to put Horry in a good shape. Destroying that with Horry not playing during one month would be just stupid.

There aren't many worse fits than Zach Randolph in existence. His play alone doesn't mesh with the Spurs but his contract makes this trade a 0% possibility.

If the Spurs want either of the two it would be Eddy Curry. First of all Zach Randolph might kill the chemistry. Zach only chucks up jumpers even though he is huge, and he rarely plays defense.

Eddy Curry is a legit center, something the Spurs need. He could be the best center the Spurs have had since David Robinson. He can score a lot inside as well. Of course he has his flaws, conditioning and some defensive lapses, but it would be a huge upgrade for the Spurs.

The Kings are the Knicks Natural Trade Partner. Trade out of conference instead of to a direct rival. Artest for Blackmon and Zach Randolph would work and make both teams better.

we lose out alot on outside shooting and veteran experience. and although balkman is a decent defender, i don't think i can trust him to be in the clutch. might be good if spurs could find a trading partner that will take in randolph for their best 3 point shooter. grizzlies would be nice with miller. but pop made sure that won't happen. blah blah blah..... blablah blah blah.

err.... no.

I heartily agree.

I as well.

Barry is our best bench player outside of Manu. I think Barry is probably better than Finley -- more consistent with his shot, better passer.

Are we in such a hurry to trade our 5th/6th best player?
