I'm making a mix CD of my top 15 songs of all time or so, and I've come up with my first five.

While this is subject to change quite frequently, here they are in no particular order.

1. Jude - I Know
2. Jeff Buckley - Last Goodbye
3. Jeff Buckley - Lover, You Should've Come over
4. Pearl Jam - Black
5. The Dave Matthews Band - Crush

Fuck, I can't pick five - I need a subcategory ... so I'll make it songs that I can listen to on repeat for extended periods of time, because that is love.

Neil Young - "The Needle and the Damage Done"
Magnetic Fields - "Epitaph for My Heart"
George Harrison - "Something"
Tori Amos - "Cooling" (or her live version of "i i e e e" - can't decide)
Travis - "The Fear"

This is rough, but here's what's on my mind now:

Shhh/Peaceful - Miles Davis
Lush Life - John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman
Siete Ocho - Andrew Hill
Bring it on Home to Me - Sam Cooke
Unfaithful Servant - The Band
Straight Life - Freddie Hubbard

Shit. Too many already.

Damn, I try to pick my top 5 and my brain just short circuits...I'd never have thought that picking your 5 favorite songs would be so difficult. I come up with 5 different songs every time I try to do it.

I try looking at it in terms of absolutes...if I had to live the rest of my life on an Island and could only take 5 songs with me...what songs would I pick, and I still can't make up my mind...the favorites are always changing depending on my mood.

This time around I came up with:
AM Radio
2112
Stir it up
Reflections of my Life
Bolero
