Basically a punk antagonist who hides under his desk whenever called to any accountability.

Always trying to stir up crap, heavy innuendo but always passive aggressive enough to keep a weasle out opening.

I liked his show in the middle years. Beggining years he was a screaming lunatic. Nows he's Corporate Jimmy pushing Carls Jr burgers and kissing ass.
Middle years were pretty good for a while.

Rome failed to address the point: whether or not there should be a commission to review trades with the power to veto bullshit ones and investigate allegations of collusion.

Even if Pop is only pissed because this trade negatively impacts the Spurs (which is certainly possible), who gives a fuck? Pop's motive is not the point, it's just a diversion. Pop's statement is the point, and Rome's only comment on it is that the NBA "isn't fantasy basketball," which is weak as shit.

This isn't a burn at all, this is more retarded shock journalism.

Stern is hoping against hope that now he can have an LA - Boston Finals.

Enough of this San Antonio - Cleveland small market shit.

Now if only he can fix it so it is sure to happen.

Mmmmkay... Lots of assumptions being made in that little rant. In fact, there's no basis for any of that rant without the completely fabricated motive Rome assigned to Pop's comments. Who is Jim Rome to say Pop wouldn't have commented if the Grizzlies had traded Gasol to the Knicks for nothing?

Can't we just as easily assume that Jim Rome wouldn't have devoted two minutes of his abortion of a show to Pop's comments if the Lakers weren't the beneficiaries of the deal?

Talk about overblown. Who still watches this tool anyway? How does he still have a TV show?

If Boston and LA make the finals this year; it will be unprecedented.

Neither was any type of contender last year, and only one even made the playoffs (and was escorted out unceremoniously in the first round).

The history of the NBA playoffs has been one of paying your dues until you get over the mountain (the major exception being Miami recently; but they at least played an opponent that had been scaling the mountain for a whiile). All of a sudden, in a single year, two teams with GM's that had close ties with Boston and LA respectively, trade their franchise power forwards to Boston and LA respectively.

So, if I understand this correctly, the single BEST thing that could happen for the NBA has miraculously happened: Boston and LA as favorites (LA debatable), despite the fact that just a few short months ago LA was in disarray, with its own franchise player DEMANDING a trade - a relationship so broken it COULD NEVER be repaired!!!!

Now this.

I guess dreams CAN come true. More often than not, however, they are manufactured.

McHale, West, Boston, LA What a CRAZY coincidence.

You're comparing Odom and Butler to a bust and a couple of late, late first round picks who'll beat the odds if they're even in the league after 4-5 years. Butler is an all-star and Odom has been mentioned as being deserving in the past. I'd say of recent trades for all-star caliber players, a rapidly declining Shaq, KG, Allen and Gasol , the Lakers ripped off the other team far, far more than any of the others. Even a dumbass knows the Lakers stole Gasol (maybe with some inside help).

Pop was tongue in cheek about the trade committee. I'm pretty sure the part about incomprehensible he meant. I guess Rome is either too much of a moron to realize Pop was not being serious about that part. Either that or Rome figure it's always good for stirring up the cretins who listen to him.

I think what OP means is that people had the same kind of reaction to the Shaq-to-Miami deal that they're having now: "They traded Shaq for WHO?!?!?"

Hindsight is the only thing that makes that trade actually pretty balanced...Butler certainly wasn't a constant 30 point threat back them like he is now, evidenced by the fact that he got traded for Kwame fucking Brown. Not many people suspected Odom was as good as he has turned out to be as well.

The difference between the trades in my mind is that the Gasol deal couldn't be a balanced trade unless Crittenton turned into the next Kobe or something.

I don't understand why Laker Fan even tries to explain the trade. The trade isn't defensible. No question.

If I'm Laker Fan, I would get the best rise out of other fans by straight up admitting the deal was shady (I love how Mitch "Cupcake" goes from being one of the worst GMs in years to scoring a blockbuster trade "out of the blue"...) and just laugh about how the league won't do anything about it anyhow.

C'mon, don't try to act all classy and such. Stay true to your roots and your words will carry more weight.

Dude, we don't need to wait a few seasons before we judge Kwame Brown, Crittenton, and Marc Gasol. There is no way that trio will ever be anywhere near as good as Butler, Odom and Grant. Kwame is a disaster, Crittenton has a relatively low ceiling, and when Pau was Marc's age, he had already been rookie of the year and was averaging 18 and 8.

Two things:

1) A brief history of time: First, the earth cooled. Then, Phil Jackson invented smug reactions. Hypocrisy indeed.

The funny thing is, Rome isn't alone in these thoughts. I've watched every single ESPN analyst on TV basically say the same thing as Lakers fans and Rome about Pop's comments which is absolutely ridiculous. How many people when they first heard this trade thought...wait, what?!?!! If the Grizz wanted expiring contracts, they could have gotten much better deals from elsewhere. Also, why were they so willing to trade their franchise player to someone in their own Conference? It's also not like this deal was done last minute before the trade deadline...it was done a good 3-4 weeks, they still had time to shop around. And I can bet you that if they let it be known to other teams that Gasol was on the trading block with any team with some expiring contracts...plenty of Eastern Conference teams would have jumped at that chance. And they could have gotten someone more special in the deal than Kwame Brown. Something was definitely fishy there.

That's actually a great point. Not calling it a consipiracy or anything, but isn't it a coincidence that in a single year, the two biggest trades occurred between GM's that had close ties to one another?

Pop was half-joking/half-serious like usual. Basing an opinion from the Express' court stenography isn't going to help much in getting any further to determining Pop's intent.

The trade was ludicrous, especially the part where the Lakers signed a player that was retired just so they could match salaries. That alone should have raised huge eyebrows. The trade was a fraud. Mitch proved he has no bargaining skills when he got little in return for Shaq. (Odom and Butler couldn't get them out of the lottery so it's hard to make the case for their talent or defending that bad trade. Besides, Butler is a marginal All Star on the East. He wouldn't get near the All Star game on the West.)

So for Mitch to pull this off is insane. Obviously, other teams were not in on the bidding. This was only about money, which means I wouldn't be shocked if Buss gave money to Memphis to make this happen. What other rational conclusion can be reached with something this lopsided and unexpected?

As for Rome, he went too far when he started taking jabs at Pop and the dynasty being over. However, at least he mentioned it was a dynasty, which was something I didn't expect to hear coming from LA.

So, as usual, the LA bandwagon begins to rejoin. I would love to see Phoenix somehow knock off the Lakers and then we knock off Phoenix. The upcoming playoffs keep getting more interesting.

Rome rants and is a So Cal homer. Nothing wrong with being a homer but that is what pays the bills for him. Of course he is gong to go off on Pop. This sort of stuff sells and is a topic that takes on a life of its own with his listeners. I've listened to his show and The Spurs are not a popular team with his fan base.

Anyway this wasn't a trade so to speak but pure and simple theft. If Memphis is looking for cap space and expiring contracts I think the Spurs could accomadate them in order to get Mike Miller here.

We have plenty of expiring contracts ya think?

This is simply from this thread....if you are not a troll, then you got a seriosuly bad case of "message board commando" going on...Talking tough on the internet does not a cool guy make...you come off as a punk kid, who has complete lack of respect for their peers or opposing opinions.

Then there is this from the other thread on this topic

Cry me a river tankers. You guys had "David soft as a marshmallow Robinson" and tanked it to get Duncan. Pop replaces Mike D as the biggest whiner in the league. Lakers already did y'all a favor by blowing up their team the first time around. Just goes to show you guys can only win by default or cheating like how you did when you tanked the season to get Timmy.

In huge bold letters...at this point junior...id kind of want to be labled a troll, because if you are serious, the other thing that comes to mind is complete jackass...so i guess take your pick.

You are on a Spurs message board, that has quite likely been around since you were in diapers and you are trying to "cure the homerism" Do you think we are all going to jump on your internet tough guy bandwagon and start agreeing with you?

I really hope, for your sake, you are indeed under legal age to drive, and you arent an underachieving adult who doesnt know any better.

Good call! Remember that time when Rome made an unequivocal midseason prediction, declaring a team dead, only to have said team end up winning the championship? Rome has never been afraid to look like a complete douchebag...no problem, because no one ever calls him out- at least not on the air. They never make it past the call screener. For a guy who loves to tell athletes to "own it", Rome rarely if ever does. What a turd.

If you know he is being facetious, then why make a big deal of the comment?

If people are going to follow what Rome says like a bunch of lemmings, that is there problem.

What caught my attention in Rome's statement is that he called the Spurs a dynasty, unlike so many others in the media, who say a repeat is necessary for that term to be applied the Spurs.

Majigman AND Lakeshow1 are both on here simply to rattle cages and stir the pot or whatever the hell you wanna call it......why you may ask? because they know that they have no weight behind any of these so called arguments they are trying to push. they have resorted to name calling against Pop, analyzing english & grammar mistakes like a college professor and saying that the spurs are done, with the season only half done. when june rolls around and the lakers are still playing (which I doubt) then congrats to them, but if and when the spurs are still winning in June, they will be nowhere to be found b/c thats how all lakers fans are. they cant handle the truth.
