I only caught the last bit, but enough to be flabbergasted. I thought Michael Moore couldn't stun me anymore, but he proved me wrong again.
I caught Moore making the case to Katie to get a celebrity to run on the democratic ticket. Oprah or Tom Hanks are his two ideal choices. Does Michael not see the absurdity of seeking out celebrities for office, for the sake of celebrity? I mean, not that Tom or Oprah couldn't make noble contributions, but this is an utterly faulty strategy. Let's go hunt us a big name celebrity to run up against the Republicans. Then he totally bashed Kerry, he asked the audience, 'quick, name me something that Kerry stood for during the elections" waited .5 seconds and said, 'See, noone can do it, that's why we need someone like Arnold' or something like that.
Then they talk about his new movie targeting the pharm companies. Katie asks Michael if he can acknowledge the good that pharm companies have done against disease, or does he view them as pure evil and a real enemy of the people. He said they are pure evil, then states that health care is a human right and that pharm companies should not be in the business of making profits. Now, I don't know about you, but this sent me reeling. I was flat out knocked over by this comment, and judging by Katie's reaction, so was she. He goes on to point out Eli Lilly had prior knowledge that Prozac made you 12 times likely to commit suicide. Fine. That's bad and should be dealt with appropriately. But Michael is out of his mind if he thinks that pharm companies don't have a right to a profit no more than anyone else in any other field. Just proposterous.
I think to not acknowledge the extensive volumes of good the pharm companies have done only illustrates his anti-capitalist motives. I have no other explanation for it.
Dems better do something about Moore. He's acting as an indirect party leader and doing some real damage.
We need to hunt a celebrity, and pharm companies are "pure evil". Moore just keeping it real.
