How would you best define your political views?

I most often call myself a conservative, but that is both in defiance of the left, and that there are both liberal and conservative libertarians. I am first and foremost a libertarian, but at the right end of that value. Get those authoritarians like Hillary, Hitler, etc. out of my face.

There was a comprehensive political test I once linked to. It placed me correctly to the right part of the libertarian area, and called me a "Right leaning freedom lover:"

Here are a few test links, I like the first one the best:

The Enhanced-Precision Political Quiz (http://www.quiz2d.com/)

VoteMatch Quiz (http://www.speakout.com/VoteMatch/Senate2006.asp#sec0)

World's Smallest Political Quiz (http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz.html)

I consider this last one the worse of the tests because you either have to assume too much, or the questions only offer unreasonable answers in my view. I could answer many of the questions several different ways depending on more specific circumstances:
The Political Compass (http://www.politicalcompass.org/test)

I'd say Conservative but I don't give a shit about the social conservatism (gay marriage, abortion) aspect. Your business, make you own damn choice.

Biggest concern is fiscal responsibility and letting those who work hard reap the benefits.

The first test said I was a "Social Liberal" and didn't have a party that supported my views. I agree.

The Vote Match quiz is interesting in so far as you can see how the candidates voted.

Interesting:

Support more Military Spending: Obama = "Support", Clinton = "Strongly Oppose"

Did you liberals know this?

Other

I call it individualism. Some call it whatever-the-fuck they want. By pure coincidence I may or may not fall in line with a Dem or Repub or whatever.

I guess I span a myriad. I am a staunch fiscal conservative. I am more liberal on social aspects (abortion, gay marriage and any other matter that doesnt mean shit to the well being of the nation). Foreign policy varies. If it makes a fuck of a difference, I think the current adminstration has mind-fucked Americans into fear. Honestly, I never thought it would be so easy to scare so many people....who knew?

According to that first quiz, I'm a left-leaning libertarian, with strong beliefs that the government should have far less control over our personal lives, and a little less control over the economy. The description made the recommendation that I vote for Ron Paul, which is good, because I already voted for him.

Edit: I took all the other quizzes, as well, and they all say the same thing: that I'm left-leaning, but very libertarian.

Other. I take each issue individually and I don't really think my current views fit under a single umbrella. Also, my views change on certain issues over time (and sometimes change back).

I'm pretty much a flip-flopper, but that's part of not knowing everything.

Not necessarily a bad thing. Professor Kingsfield is one of my favorite characters in cinema.

In Argentina, right wing.

In America, independent.

Socially conservative, politically liberal and economically conservative.

so smegmal likes unfunded big government peeping in people's bedrooms

so you're a republican?

I'm not a Republican and I like small government not peeping in people's bedrooms.

Next question.

"Socially conservative" in America usually means you care about things like whether people are gay, what women do with their bodies, etc, etc. I believe that's what he meant when he said "peeping in people's bedrooms"...

You bring up an interesting point, however - these terms have a very different meaning in other countries. I know in Israel I'd be moderate, sometimes right-leaning (foreign policy) and sometimes left-leaning (socially).

In this country I tend to be progressive and left-leaning, but only in comparison to most of the people holding political office. Compared to my friends I'm pretty moderate.

Supergirl said it best. Your response was actually educational on the differences between Argentine (am I saying that right? or is it "Argentinian"?) and American politics.
