The Houston Rockets were close to an agreement to trade Bonzi Wells and Mike James to the New Orleans Hornets for Bobby Jackson, league sources told Yahoo! Sports late Wednesday night.

For the Hornets, who have the Western Conference's best record, they'll get the veteran bench depth that they've been trying hard to secure for the stretch run. James can give coach Byron Scott productive minutes behind point guard Chris Paul, and Wells gives the Hornets another shooter off its bench.

The Hornets will also send rookie Adam Haluska to Houston. With the development of rookie guard Aaron Brooks, the Rockets would be able to free themselves of the nearly $13 million left on James' contract.

More like "western rival New Orleans makes its move"

Houston just cut salary by trading with its biggest division opponent. Sound familiar?

I also think they would have been a great addition, but I think It wouldn't answer the spurs problems in the middle, not to mention the redundancy that would be caused by it.

Rockets also just gave away their one player who consistently has given the Spurs fits.

If Wells were to come in and play like he does AGAINST the Spurs, he would have some value.

If he were to come in and play like he does against everybody else, he'd struggle to even crack the rotation.

Yeah, but despite their record and potential seeding, it's tough to fear a team that is looking at their first playoff run.

They spanked the Spurs once, and may even do it again on Saturday. But over a 7 game series when the Spurs are finally healthy (beating anybody in the playoffs depends on this) and they are the only team that Pop has to gameplan for, I'm not worried about them until they've been there a time or two.

This is good for us against Houston, but bad for us against New Orleans.

I'm not sure, should I be excited about this?

Your team need to get healthy and fast...

The way the west is right now, a bad streak may leave you out of the playoffs...

1 team to lookout for

1 team to worry less about, due to lack of depth

does the rockets still have francis?

Yes they do, but I think he'll be out for the season because of an injury.

But that was before the season began. Houston trails NO in the standings. Why trade with someone you're trying to catch?

This trade seems to be a financially-motivated non-event.

This trade is just weird. Bonzi Wells is going to be in Byron Scott's doghouse in record time. I wouldn't put it past Mike James joining him at some point. Scott hates me-first, mentally weak players.

If Wells couldn't get along with JVG, just wait until Scott rips into his azz.

Whatever happened to Steve Francis with the Rockets? I haven't heard a peep from him all season.

on paper this moves looks good - NO gets some depth - but I'd be skeptical if I'm a NO fan. Wells has talent but he's proved to be a cancer every team he's played for, and James has potential but this isn't the first team that has given up on him, not thinking he's worth it.

This does not improve the Rockets. Jackson is having an abismal year. He's shooting less than .400%, averaging 7 point and less than 2 assists. Those are the same numbers James was putting up in less minutes. Add to that fact that Wells' 9 pts 5 rbs is the 3rd best per minute total (he only plays 22 mins per game) behind Yao and McGrady. So you got less rebounding for a wash stat player and a worse defender. For whatever reason, Adleman thinks he is getting the Bobby Jackson from Sacto before he blew out his knees and ripped a hammy and has a chronic sprained wrist.

NO just got better, not Houston.

pure money trade. Rockets fans are very irate. Flaming Les Alexander the owner and now there are calls for him to sell the team to an owner that actually cares.

Rumors about Bonzi going back to his old ways about complaining about his minutes and place in the offense as a go-to guy have been rife in Houston for some time. He was definitely becoming a cancer again in the Houston lockerroom and with the coach. In addition, his game was down on the low block and they have Yao and Scola there.

Adelman gets Bobby Jackson, who he's coached before and is a solid if unspectacular vet to back up the point. Houston has been looking for another backup point guard all year. Jackson will also help with perimeter shooting to open up for Yao and Scola.

Most Houston talkshow hosts and fans like the trade.

er... maybe you didn't pay attention when he was in sac and he also proved that he could be a beast in the playoffs... against the spurs. bonzi can certainly contribute to this hornets team, to what extent depends on his being able to stay focused and motivated. to completely dismiss him as a valuable player is just silly.

he was a monster in THAT environment with THAT set of players... haven;t proven to be effective since... he should have stayed and not lose the money he actually did

didn't bonzi end up losing like $30-40 million after turning the sacto offer down? :lol :lol couldn't have happened to a better person! :lol :lol
