The ESPN writer's roundtable regarding the state of the West, post-trades, suggests that most of the experts think the Spurs are firmly in the middle of the pack of contenders this season:

It's been SIX seasons since the Spurs lost a playoff series that started on the road.

The last two series that they have dropped have started in S.A.

The Spurs are successful in the playoffs when they struggle (relatively) during the season.

Utah? Does anybody remember last year's WCF? Is that relevant?

Listening to these two goons filling in for Dan Patrick. Absolute disrespect for the Spurs. It's not even that the Spurs are hated. They are just ignored. Completely counted out. No one cares about them.
