Dixon asked to be traded and they accomodated him. Brezec is a nice guy who won't complain about playing time.

Yeah, I agree....why would the Raps need another big???

Funny though...slovenian towers together. :D

I hope Rasho can persuade Primo to play in the qualifying tournament for the Olympics.

Dixon traded to Pistons

The Raptors are stocking up on Slovenian centres.

In a deal consummated right before the NBA's trade deadline, Toronto moved unhappy guard Juan Dixon to the Detroit Pistons for Primoz Brezec, a 7-footer who joins fellow Slovenian Rasho Nesterovic in the Raptors front court.

Brezec, traded earlier this year from Charlotte to Detroit, is in the final year of a contract that pays him about $2.75 million (U.S.) this season. Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo said Toronto will also receive "cash considerations" as part of the deal for Dixon.

With Dixon gone and a big man coming back, Colangelo said the Raptors will be okay with Carlos Delfino acting as a backup to point guard Jose Calderon while T.J. Ford recovers from various injuries.

"I feel comfortable between the guards that we have and Darrick Martin and Carlos Delfino that it's the right play," said the general manager. "There were several transactions that were available to us for back-up point guards that ultimately would have cost us flexibility going forward. In most cases, they were looking for draft picks and that's something we weren't entertaining."

Dixon, obtained a year ago from Portland for Fred Jones, wanted out of Toronto once his role diminished to the point where he was third behind Calderon and Ford at point guard and buried behind the likes of Delfino, Anthony Parker, Jamario Moon and Jason Kapono.

His agents had made it known to Colangelo that the 29-year-old, who is in the last year of a contract that pays him about $3 million, wanted out.

And actually playing Carlos at back-up PG means more minutes for Jason which is a good thing, too.

If they can pick up Boki Nachbar, then they could call the three of them the Triglav.

Some wheeling and dealing needs to be done with Sacramento for Beno, too.

And they should throw in Sasha Vujacic.

Man, what a scrub lineup that would be:

PG - Beno
SG - Sasha
SF - Snackbar
PF - Primo
C - Rasho

Nice to hear. Now i can root for Raptors even more.
(After Spurs offcourse)

But yeah... from a basketball standpoint this trade doesnt really give Toronto anything.

Basically the cash considerations coming with him. And it gives Detroit a player that can at the moment play better than Brezec.

Too bad Toronto didnt trade Baragnani for a real center...

What's the deal with Brezec ?
He was quite good a couple of years ago. I remember a Slovenian poster saying that he was ill. Is it still the case ?

Kobayagi
02-21-2008, 07:34 PM
No, I think he's ok now. I don't remember exactly what he said in his last interview, but I guess the health issues are a thing of the past now. He has to be patient though, it's gonna take some time to get back to where he was. If ever. Kind of like Krstic and his situation.

I wish him the best, He always gives 110% of himself on the court.

He is classic white guy with very little skill that throws himself all over the court.

from what i understood he had some kind of problem that sapped his energy (being sleep all the time, tired etc)

he did not say specifically what it was but i believe it is something to do with blood or "hormones"

he almost finished his career but then they found out whats wrong and now he is getting treated (looks like hes okay)

Actually Brezec was really servicable for the Bobcats about two seasons ago. Unfortunately if you are a white center in the NBA, you will always be "soft" no matter what you do.

:lol

at least he is not a classic "black" guy with a lot of skill who just doesnt feel like playing, just collecting his paycheck :toast

i think it is obvious he is not all that talented for NBA standards, but he sure makes the most of it

At the beginning of the 2006-2007 season, he lost about 15 or 20 pounds in one month and had fatigue issues that the Bobcats blamed on his playing for the NT team but that was not true. I believe they discovered he had a thyroid problem.

Expiring contract, that is all.

He won't play much, even if he can outplay Andrea any given time. However Andrea is "project" that already costs Toronto some wins.

In green corner - Marko Milič from Union Olimpija, Slovenia (Philadelphia's 1997 pick - traded to Suns where he played 1997-1999)
In yellow corner - Pape Sow from Procom Trefl, Poland (Miami's 2004 pick, later played for Toronto)

Marko is the reason Rasho wears #12 in Toronto since #8 was already taken. He was the first Slovenian to play in the NBA.

Ironically, Sow was a teammate of Rasho's in Toronto last year.

For Toronto: The Euraptors were crestfallen when they acquired Dixon at the deadline last season and found out he was American. Exchanging him for Brezec fixes that nagging problem.

Also, Brezec is huge, and Toronto is desperate for size at the moment. But he's been horrid in his limited appearances the past two seasons. Personally, I'd rather have the guy who can play a little. Grade: C+
