:dramaquee haha, I have no illusions about Power Rankings. They just show you how good you are at the time the Rankings are done. So what if the Rockets are on a 12 game win streak. Proof is in the pudding come playoff time. See you guys on March 30th.

Yeah, let's see how the Rockets do in March. Looking at their schedule, there is a good chance Rockets don't even see the playoffs this year....

March 2nd Denver
March 6th Dallas
March 8th New Orleans
March 16th Lakers
March 18th Boston
March 19th New Orleans
March 21st Golden State
March 22nd Phoenix
March 30th San Antonio

Lets re-grade this power rating after March. I'll make sure and post it. Power ranking look good when the Rockets are playing scrub teams.

You do? Mavs never got any props in power rankings last year. Everyone was always on Phoenix and SA balls from what I remember.

If they don't matter then why make a thread about them?

Because it stimulates discussion? There's nothing wrong with a team getting to the top for the first time in the season on a major list and wanting to brag a little. If they had been there all year, it would be pointless, but it's their first trip up the charts.

yeah we get to find out what kind of team we really have down here in houston after march. they have finally stopped playing down to the level of weaker competition so a 16 game winning streak before we get to dallas isn't unreasonable. it's nice actually seeing a rockets team that looks like it enjoys beating up teams and doesn't puss out when challenged.

now we just need to get yao healthy from his mild ankle sprain before the monster march. a member of clutchfans who posts infrequently but has reliable info said yao had a MRI earlier today, so obviously the ankle is still bothering him. it would be nice if we could sit him down for these next 2 before denver but i doubt that will happen.

yeesh, that's an incredibly brutal March schedule. I'd be happy to get through that stretch winning half the games. If we go 70-80 percent I'd be estatic.

Given the way the Rockets manhandled the Hornets in New Orleans recently, I think this team is making it a point to exorcise their past demons and take it to their old nemeses. Just like Dallas, New Orleans was one team that has always seemed to have the Rockets' number over the past few years (especially since they got Chris Paul). And with more favorable matchups across the board, there's little reason to believe they can't win at least 6-7 of those games. They almost beat the Celtics without McGrady earlier, and Phoenix is now a much easier matchup. Probably the only team on there that could really give them trouble is LA.

wait, you found someone to cover Dirk? Or you think Skip To My Lou is improved to the level that he can handle Kidd?

The Rockets have always been pretty good at defending Dirk. And Jason Kidd, like many others have pointed out, has not had any kind of success against the Rockets over the past few years. On the other hand, the Mavericks now have matchup problems to deal with: when Dampier fouls out, who's going to guard Yao? How is that depleted frontline going to keep the Rockets power forwards off the offensive glass?

We are signing Magloire by the end of the day. But Yao will get his, as will t-mac. Dirk, besides the 05 series where he played on the block for the first time, always plays well against you. So does Josh really. But Terry is the one that you can't matchup with. He is faster than anyone you have on the roster, and with Kidd he is much better. Plus Kidd looks great when he has teammates that give a fuck about the game, unlike some other dude cough*VC*cough.

oh shit, hadn't see the Yao news. I feel really bad, honestly. I really like Yao, he seems like a great guy. And these injuries are piling up now, with his big body they will be tougher and tougher to avoid. Denver just got a free pass to the playoffs.

:nope :nope :nope Not gonna happen.

You get to sit him down a lot longer than 2 weeks.

Now the question becomes: Can the Rockets even win a game in March?

Indazone

Yao is out for 4 weeks minimum. More likely he is out for 5-6 months and possibly longer if China insists on playing him in the Olympics.

The REAL poer poll

1-Spurs (they the champs)
2-Celts
3-Detroit
4-Lakers
5-MAVS
They are the only ones with legit shot at a title CAVs though are a wildcard with Lebron ...
