Oberto had a off night. Pops sensed it from the beginning. No worries, he will be back.

I disagree. Oberto's a good passer and finisher, and he's a good defender that can guard the more versatile forwards.

This is a non-topic....
Oberto and Thomas will both be useful in the future, but the matchup called for alot of small ball this time around.
I liked what I saw out of Thomas, but you can always rely on consistent production from Fab.

Depends on what you need. We'd be crazy not to play Oberto against small ball as he shoots about 100% when fed against weak interiors.

More than likely, hes a better player.
I don't think hes gonna take his starting spot though.

It's amazing how stupid you continue to be. I already told you this once, but since you seem to be incapable of understanding, allow me to break it down for you: Rasho sprained his ankle and went on the injured list on April 10, 2005. Nazr started the last five games of the regular season because Rasho was unavailable.
I'm not sure why you feel the need to see a great addition to the team as a reason to start dogging on someone else on the team. I guess it's because you're a retard.

Maybe now we're number one in the Division, Pop can give Duncan a spell and play Oberto & Thomas when Parker gets it going.

Basketball is won by controlling matchups, and the Spurs just got much deeper at matching up with true big men. Now have 12 fouls and a lot of physicality to throw at Shaq, Gasol, Boozer, etc.
It's amazing how some people on this board like to isolate people and completely ignore the concept of team and the ability for two players with different strengths to both contribute to making the team deeper.

It depends on what happens to the rotations. Personally, if Manu goes back to being the 6th man off the bench, then I would prefer Fabs to become the 7th man off the bench to put him and Manu on the floor together. Damon, Manu, Fin/Ime, Fabs, and Thomas/Duncan together should make a great second unit.

It would be nice to have Oberto playing backup when Ginobili goes back to the bench. They really seem to click when paired together.

The only one you are exposing is yourself. It's nothing everyone here hasn't seen from you before. You don't even know Spurs history, and won't acknowledge it when someone tries to inform you about it. Even if Thomas starts the next game it's not "like Nazr did to Rasho".

Could Oberto be part of the reason Scola was not signed. Aren't their skill sets somewhat similar? In other words, isn't Oberto a "poor-man's" Luis Scola?

he's dog shit against Shaq, and if the Spurs match up with the Suns in the playoffs we have major problems
^Major problems? As long as Ginobili keeps playing like, well himself... you'll be fine.
Shaq and the Suns are the least of your worries.

The least of their worries? Give me a break. If there's any team we match up better against post-trade, it's the Spurs. It's one of the main reasons the trade was made in the first place.

I don't think the Spurs should worry about anybody really. I still think they're the best team out West when healthy. Lots of talent and match ups out West that are likely to be trouble but the West is like that up and down. No one has a clear cut advantage anywhere in the west except for experience and that my friend goes to San Antonio.
Kobe tho is another clear cut advantage and he's in LA.

Maybe it's just me, but Oberto seems to do a surprisingly good job against Stoudemire. Anyways, I'm with the rest saying that you're best bet is putting him on the floor with Manu.

The Suns may have looked confused these past couple weeks with Shaq, but when playoff time comes around they're gonna bring it like they did this past weekend.

It isn't only you. I think Oberto was playing very well against Amare every one game of these season like last playoffs.

Kurt is not a "god," but does show signs of fitting right into the Spurs system. If this keeps up, I'm pretty sure that he (rather than Oberto) will be in the starting lineup by the playoffs. The next two weeks should tell us. Meantime, his presence on the team alone tells us that he was brought in precisely because the WC has moved back to size from small ball in its style of play, and Kurt fills the bill a little easier than Oberto.
But let's not forget this: Pop runs the Spurs on a team system. Opposing teams will definitely see a steady diet of both Thomas and Oberto during the playoffs, along with Big Shot Bob; and so it's not like Oberto's minutes will actually drop off from last year.
As for Bonner: he hustles, but I don't think we'll see much of him unless the guards and forwards are absolutely sucking at the three point line. Can't put my finger on it, but he just doesn't seem like the type of player Pop prefers during the playoffs. It would take really sucky play from Horry (which is possible) to get him off the bench during crunch time.

The same question for you.
When Oberto played more he scored more (21 points against Denver, he has many double-digit scoring against teams like Sacramento, NO, Seattle, Indiana, Wizards) and took more rebounds.
I like Bonner.I think he'll help more and more next year, but now his defensive isn't too hard and he can't guard players like Amare or West.
The only reason for Oberto's stats're down, because of he plays only 10' per game. Knowing his team-spirit, that isn't a problem for him while our team win.
Obviously he isnt bad, we got a chance to see what he does during the finals when it mattered the most. You're responsible for the most ridiculous, asinine threads in this forum.

Somehow, I knew SD21 was going to bump this thread for his self-validation. :lol
What the poor deluded soul is missing though, is the original point he himself made - that Thomas starting over Oberto is for the same reasons that Mohammed started over Nesterovic. That was never the case, as O_V pointed out.
So in truth, SD21 ends up owning himself... again. :lmao
