My bulb burnt out on my Toshiba DLP last night...I honestly didnt know they would go that fast, i wish i would have known that when i bought the 4000 dollar TV that id have to replace 200 dollar bulbs every 2 years, but i guess that isnt a good selling point now is it?

anyone know a discount bulb retailer?

If you bought it with your CC, they usually double - from 1 to 2 years - the manufacturer's warranty. You pay and then they send you check.

It's how I replaced my first bulb.

does this happen with newer DLP tv's?

Im pretty sure these bulbs are only designed to last about 6000hrs, which in my case turned out to be a little over 2 years.

so in essense, yes it is the same with all dlp's.

Wow thats pretty crappy. I have a 42" lcd in my bedroom and was thinking about getting a 60"+ DLP for my living room but I am not sure now.

When mine went out I went to www.dlplampsource.com

The original place Phillips referred me to wanted $500 for one fucking lamp, to hell with that. Found a replacement lamp at the above website for $169. Hope that helps.

Samsung now makes DLP tvs with LED lamps and they say it will last the life of the tv.

Plasmas and LCD's have about the same life expectancy.

Just buy the warranty that comes with it. The warranty for my 50" dlp was like $250 and it covers bulb replacement.
