Thrilled to hear this. Not getting Barry back would have put a sour note on this year's title run. Having him back will have to be a big morale boost for this team.

The Spurs are fucking stacked. If Barry gets healthy and Stoudamire continues to grow into his role, I'd take our bench over any in the league, easy.

Barry will not drag it out...since the Suns are asking him for an answer today. That way they have a couple days to decide if they want to bring anyone else it.

i'm sure playing time was a factor and weighed on his mind...he's a ballplayer and wants to compete...obviously guys like him don't enjoy sitting on the bench.

but at the end of the day...comraderie/friendship you've built with your teammates, family that is settled and ultimately a better chance to win another ring outweighs the lack of minutes on the court at this point in his career.

well, that and a reported 3rd yr offered..

can't believe everybody's this thrilled about brent barry

Brent being back in silver and black has more importance than meets the eye.

Brent can run the point if we need him to (great for a bigger lineup, and who knows if we need the extra offense since we really can't count on Stoudamire or Vaughn) and he knows all of the Spurs offensive sets. Bringing a player in to take his spot this late in the year wouldn't give that player much time to learn the inner working of Pop's system.

Back in '05 BB was $$ in the Suns series...how quickly people forget his contributions...remember those deep threes he and Rob were hitting?

I am thrilled that he is coming back. Great guy, excellent player.

Weighing in on Barry
By David Thiessen | February 28th, 2008
E-mail | Print | Share

Where will Bones go?

First we heard that he would announce his decision on Tuesday, but Tuesday came and went without any news. Then we heard that he would announce on Wednesday. Now it is Thursday and Brent Barry still has not made a decision.

However, we know that he will end up in either Phoenix or San Antonio.

The draw of each team is apparent. Phoenix desires another three-point shooter and plays a wide open style that Barry could thrive in. He was never a great defender, so that wouldn’t be an issue. He would come in to provide another playmaker and shooter. San Antonio can provide familiarity. Barry already knows the offensive and defensive sets, the players and the community. There would not be a transition period like in Phoenix.

So what should he do?

Phoenix can provide more playing time and opportunity to score, so if that’s what he wants he should sign with the Suns. The Spurs, however, are better suited to win another championship. They’ve done it three of the past five years, eliminating the Suns twice in the process. So he should return to San Antonio if he thinks the Spurs have a better shot at a title, like I do.

San Antonio really makes the most sense. He does not have to learn anything new but can heal and return seamlessly to the Spurs lineup. His family is also in San Antonio and like most Spurs’ families, involved in the community. Don’t underestimate the power of his family. It is also important to consider his calf injuries. He won’t be able to play for another week at least, so there is no real harm in waiting to sign with the Spurs. Even if he could play in a week, he would still need some time to find his shot. Signing with San Antonio gives him three weeks to recover and come back at 100%.

The longer he waits, the better it is for the Spurs. Phoenix is rumored to have interest in Gordan Giricek if he is waived by Philadelphia. If Giricek is waived within the next couple days, it forces the Suns to decide if they want to wait on Barry and risk the chance of signing neither player. If Barry still has not announced a decision by the end of the weekend, I would bet that he will sign with San Antonio. Just a gut feeling.

Ultimately, I don’t think his decision will swing the West to Phoenix or San Antonio. Barry is a nice player but not one that will decide the West. If he decides to sign with the Suns, all Spurs fans should be thankful for his contributions to the team and the community and then wish him luck. Barry, by all accounts, is a respectable man and never shamed the organization in any way.

Oh ya, the other thing the Spurs lose if Barry signs with Phoenix, other than three-point shooting, are his hilarious commercials with HEB. Here are a few for your enjoyment.

Hey Kori, does Mr Insider have any details on the contract? I assume vet. min, but how many years? Did he get 3 like some posters suggested he got put on the table? If so, are they all fully guaranteed, or does he or the team have options?

Xlus, remember this. Take note: The Suns picked up dead wait in Shaq, his promises are blah. He promised a turn-around in Miami and look what happened. He promised, "give me a little more time to understand the system and watch out." Watch out for what, his slow feet and heavy wait. The Suns are not run-and-gun anymore, they are run-and-gun dragging dead wait. Shaq is finished and needs to retire. Thank you Kerr for helping the Spurs out again.

02-28-2008, 07:17 PM
FEBRUARY 16--In a blistering legal counterattack on her estranged husband, the wife of NBA star Jason Kidd has filed a lawsuit accusing the athlete of "years of physical abuse" and serial adultery. Joumana Kidd, who last month was branded an erratic spousal abuser by the New Jersey Nets guard, made her allegations in a counterclaim filed late yesterday in New Jersey Superior Court (a copy of the document can be found below). According to Joumana, 34, Kidd has engaged in extramarital affairs with "several different television reporters," as well as strippers in Arizona, Sacramento, Miami, Dallas and Indiana, a Nets season ticket holder, a Nets employee, and a cheerleader in New Orleans. Joumana also contends that she recently discovered a prepaid cell phone of his containing text messages and naked photos sent by various women. Joumana portrays Kidd, 33, as a sadistic binge drinker and excessive gambler who began beating her even before the pair's 1997 marriage. She claims that Kidd assaulted her while she was pregnant with the couple's first child and has struck her with everything from a large rock to a cookie. Once, after Kidd kicked her in the stomach causing blood to appear in her urine, Joumana alleges that he told her, "I don't give a f--k." She also claims that Kidd resorted to purchasing her expensive jewelry (a $585,000 pink diamond ring and a $550,000 diamond pendant) as a way to apologize for his marital infidelity. Joumana's counterclaim was filed in response to Kidd's January 9 divorce petition, which accused her of domestic violence and portrayed her as "increasingly controlling and manipulative." In January 2001, Kidd was arrested in Arizona for punching Joumana in the mouth during an argument. He later took an assault plea and was ordered to attend anger management classes. The couple has three children, whose names have been redacted from Joumana's filing by court personnel. Kidd, who was named this year to his eighth NBA All-Star team, will miss Sunday's game in Las Vegas due to a strained lower back. He is in the fourth year of a six-year, $99 million deal with the Nets.

- He would be called a traitor if going to Phoenix
- He's known around and is active in teh community
- He can win more rings with the spurs
- They would love to have him back
- They would wait for his recovery

Man, thanks for posting the link with the Spurs HEB commercials. I live in Dallas and its about the only place in Texas without HEB. Ive lived all over the US where there are pro teams and yeah, some stars get big endorsements but to me these kinda silly ads show the Spurs for who they are; good guys who seem to enjoy each others company. I dont think Ive seen it anyplace else in the NBA or any other type of team sport. Sometimes I feel sorry that Tim, Tony or Manu dont get the huge nationwide endorsements but in the big picture of things I dont think they really give a damn. And as for Bones, you can just tell he loves doing them. Thanks.

Great. The first site I look at for News in general is Spurstalk. Cool to have this forum. :tu

I really like the fact that Barry is playing here next year for the vet-min. That means the Spurs have actually 2 holes to fill. One is the backup SG and the backup PF (assuming Bonner won't help a lot) That leaves the Spurs with that lineup going into free agency:

TP/Vaughn
Manu/???/ Barry
Bowen/ Udoka
TD/???/ Bonner
Oberto/ Splitter

I would love if they manage to keep Thomas for the vet-min as well. It would be great to have him as a mentor.
