Because all of us realized that he's the only trade bait we got. Even though we liked to keep him in the roster, the FO decision to improve up front requires that we give something to Seattle. Now that we could have him back - we welcome him with open arms!

Hey, we traded him, got something good in return (if Pop will let him play), and got Barry back to boot. What's not to like?

Barry as the fourth highest paid player on the team was redirkulous. Barry on a minimum contract is a steal.

Who the heck should be the 4th highest paid player on the team then? You can make an argument for the pros and cons of everyone 4-10 with this team.
Really who should be 4th? Bowen? He has value, but he has been as inconsistent this year, on both ends, as anyone on the team.
Oberto? He gets less than 15 minutes some games.
Finley? He's shooting below 40%, and Cubes is paying most of his salary anyway.
If you're going to pay people by how many "basketball skills" they possess, then Barry very well could be the 4th highest on the team. He can do a lot of things well. He's just a poor defender and sometimes a hesitant shooter/penetrator, so Pop never has trusted him all that much.

'xactly. Scoring punch where needed, when the other 4 wings are scuffling trying to score more than 5 points in a quarter.

ROFL @ saying Barry is better than Bowen. I think even whottt would ROFL at that.

I have always thought Bruce Bowen should be the fourth highest paid player on the Spurs. He's part of the Big Four core, and has been a key contributor in three championships. He's the best defender...and defense wins championships.
I heard he took a couple of pay cuts so that the Spurs could afford to get good contracts for other players.
No offense at all to Brent Barry...but I also thought it was a bit unfair that he got paid more than Bruce...
Either way, glad to have Brent Barry back.

We should just pay Manu twice, then there will be no more argument. He can be the third and fourth higest paid player.

It's a matter of reality, which was that Barry was the only real asset the Spurs had to trade, which is why he was always mentioned in any potential deals. The only thing better than sacrificing him to get rid of Elson and get something decent in return is giving him a month to heal up before returning. I don't recall reading anywhere that someone wanted to trade Barry just to get him off the roster.

A smart veteran who is willing to accept a role and can shoot lights out. A no brainer to bring him back and remember he was athletic enough once to win the dunk contest. Brent Barry an under-rated NBA player who it will be good to have back!

Spurs fans are like any other. They scream about getting rid of Barry, then Manu, and then Tony, then Big Shot Bob -- but granted, everyone but Timmy -- after lackluster games, which are inevitable. Mavs fans do that about Dirk; Suns fans about everyone on their roster except Nash, Kobe about everyone on his own team except lately... ad nauseum.
I'm thrilled that Brent is back. He's just one more weapon. I lost count of how many times during the past two months, when Finley's and Bowen's treys weren't falling, that I wish he was around. Heck, just out of sheer veteran guile, Brent even has his moments defensively.
In short, it's a relief to have Brent back in time for the playoffs. The Spurs have never needed him in every game; but every few games he makes all the difference in the world. Can't wait to hear the TV dudes start to scream "bang!" again, every time our boy sticks another three point dagger into a would-be World Champion killer.
