It's actually easy to beat a team that lets you shoot 56%.

CubanMustGo
03-02-2008, 12:55 AM
A playoff team in the WC should easily handle any EC playoff team (with the possible exceptions of Detroit and Boston), esp. at home. Sixers are how many games under .500 and a crummy road team (11-19).

As an aside, Milwaukee had defeated three playoff teams in their last three home games (Cle, Den, Det) before SA got by them tonight.

1Parker1
03-02-2008, 01:01 AM
It doesn't matter that their overall record is below .500. My point is, recently, Sixers have been playing a lot better than their record indicates. They're 7-3 their last 10 games and have beaten teams like Dallas and the Orlando Magic in the last few weeks.

Nothing new here.....Mike D'Antoni IS Mike Martz.
#1. Handed the keys to a talented team.
#2. Changed the landscape of modern offense.
#3. Ignored and scoffed at the concept of defense & fundamentals.
#4. Never won the big games.
#5. Gimmick offense eventually got figured out.
#6. Arrogant.
#7. Stubborn.
#8. Both named Mike.

O'Neal said the problems are on defense.

"We have to have some urgency and stop some people," he said. "I'm fitting in. I'm swinging the ball to the top and I'm only taking four or five shots a game. I'm just rebounding and trying to fit in. But right now we just have to stop people."

Shaq was brought in for Defense...Right? Yet now, since Shaq has joined the Suns, teams are putting up more points than ever on them. What's this one? 4th or 5th team that has put up near the 120 mark? The Suns can't score that much any longer.

You may not want to believe it, but Shaq has hurt this team, and I expect Kerr will be fired shortly for dealing for him.

I had my doubts on the Shaq trade. it's not that I don't think it can work, only that D'Antoni is too much of an idiot to maximize player's strengths. In all honesty, it's looking bad. It wouldn't shock me if they miss the playoffs. In the west, losing 6-or-7 out of 10 means a 5-to-6 spot fall in the standings, if not worse.

I'm could kill Sarver. I'm sick to death of D'Antoni. I'm just tired. I've never been homer, but this shit is wearing on me. I bleed for the Suns, but it's painful. They need so much it's not even funny. Go forward, they have so little to stay competitive and/or improve that their demise will resemble the death of the Blues Mobile.

I mean, son of a bitch! It doesn't have to be this hard, but when money is your goal as an owner, and when ego is your driving force as a coach, it would literally take a miracle for the players to make right all the wrongs the ups have laid upon them and win. We're seeing what happens when the miracle doesn't come.

BTW, Anyone else think the Suns should have tried trading for Ben Wallace instead of Shaq? At least Wallace can still defend, block shots, run, has championship experience also......

No. The Suns made their bed this past offseason when they traded Thomas and James Jones along with three 1st-rounders for nothing.

Both Thomas and Jones were solid to good defenders and rebounders. Each could shoot, as well. Throw in those three 1sts to the half a dozen traded 1sts since 2004-05 and you have your reasons why the Suns even needed to make a trade at all.

There are so many scenarios that could have/would have likely made the Suns better, but whether it be failing to extend Joe Johnson to a six year, 50 million dollar offer in the 04-05 offseason (the offseason before he bolted for six years, 70 million), trading 1st rounder after 1st rounder, passing on players like Al Jefferson, Andre Iguodala, Luel Deng, Kevin Martin, David Lee, Jordan Farmar, Marcus Williams (the Nets PG), etc, etc, etc., or making terrible veteran signing after terrible veteran signing like Brian Grant, Eric Piatkowski, Marcus Banks, Sean Marks, Pat Burke - all for roughly 34 million in deals, then needing to trade 1sts to get them off the books... what the reason or combination of reasons, short of stealing a Gasol or Camby for something like Diaw/Banks and 1sts, I don't think the Suns would be in any better a position than they are with Shaq. Not even had they kept Marion. They may have won a few more games, but in all honesty they weren't winning a title the moment they traded Thomas and Jones and 1sts this offseason.

JMarkJohns
03-03-2008, 01:55 PM
I've said it before, but had the Suns ups gone the best route, then their roster could be...

Steve Nash............. (04-05 contract signing, 6 years, 60 million - 10 per year)
Joe Johnson............ (04-05 contract extend, 6 years, 50 million - 8.5 per year)
Raja Bell................ (05-06 contract signing, 5 years, 24 million - 4.5 per year)
Leandro Barbosa..... (06-07 contract extend, 5 years, 30 million - 6.0 per year)
Shawn Marion......... (02-03 contract extend, 5 years, 75 million - 15 per year)
Amare Stoudemire.. (05-06 contract extend, 5 years, 70 million - 14 per year)
Al Jefferson............ (07-08 contract extend, 6 years, 60 million - 10 per year)
Jordan Farmar............ (06-07 draft selection, 4 years, 3 million - <1 per year)
David Lee.................. (05-06 draft selection, 4 years, 4 million - 1 per year)

So, remembering that this is worst case financial situation with Johnson, Barbosa, Jefferson, Amare and Marion's extensions all on the books, their team CAP total would be roughly 70 million, or approximately 8 million fewer than they are at right now. They'd have all their own picks for the future, so, even if they chose to let Marion walk for nothing, with all their young players locked in, they'd be in great shape for the present and future. Remember, this is worst case financial. Barbosa is just in his first year as an extended player and Jefferson isn't even in his yet. Realistically the Suns would be floating around 60-to-65 for much of their run, rather than 70-to-80 like they have been since 04-05.

And I kid you not when I say that all this was possible. But they traded the pick that could have turned into Jefferson. They balked on extending Johnson for 8 million a year, then traded him when his price jumped to 14 per year. They made terrible veteran signings, forcing them to part with valuable 1sts that could have turned into Lee and Farmar and future 1sts as well.

I'm telling you, I know some Spurs fans gripe and grumble when a move isn't made, or a player isn't signed, but the unbelievable ineptitude of the Suns front office the past two or three seasons has literally been unrivaled. They just got lucky that Colangelo laid such a great foundation for success before selling the team. All Sarver has done is take a jack hammer to it in hopes of find treasure.
