Trail Blazers Sign Free Agent James Thomas



PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - The Trail Blazers signed free-agent forward James Thomas to a 10-day contract.

The 6-foot-9 rookie who played in college at Texas appeared in 14 games with Roanoke of the National Basketball Development League this season. He averaged 12.1 points and a league-leading 14.3 rebounds.

Portland (14-17) was third in the Northwest Division entering Sunday night's game against the Knicks in New York.

Maybe if he's actually in shape and has learned to play in a pro offense, he might have a chance to be a 12th man.

He was completely clueless when with the Spurs. I've never seen anyone appear so lost on the floor.

He was putting up some pretty sick boarding numbers in the D-League. Portland needs all the help it can get in that department.

I guess they figure seeings he knows Ricky and Cedric Bongson, that he can hook them up with some of that maryjuwana stuff.
