AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) -- Flip Saunders is the NBA's Eastern Conference Coach of the month.

Saunders earned the recognition Monday after leading the Pistons to a 9-3 record in February, including wins over Western Conference teams Phoenix, Dallas and Denver.

The Pistons had 31/2 assists for every turnover last month while outscoring opponents by an average of nearly 10 points.

Detroit's third-year coach beat out Boston's Doc Rivers and Cleveland's Mike Brown for the award.

The Central Division-leading Pistons host the Seattle SuperSonics on Tuesday night before a marquee matchup Wednesday night at Boston against the Eastern Conference-leading Celtics.

Houston's Rick Adelman was the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month.

Additionally, I dont think coach of the month awards should ever go to a team thats streaking unless it was really the coach's doing. It seems to me flip had much less to do with the pistons than the pistons themselves. You cant say the same about Adelman's rockets.
