US soldiers throw puppy off a cliff. This video fucking sickens me. I simply can't comprehend how someone can do this and smile afterwards.

Hmm..I think these are the kinds of things you see happening when men are at war for too long....troop rotations are too long....troop screening gets tossed aside....

Are these the frat pranks hush limbaugh speaks of?
on a side note I certainly don't believe that these events represent our military as a whole..

Military men and women are governed by a code of ethics (UCMJ) that is more extensive than any other you will find in the US.
The problem is the contradictory nature of war and a soldier's mission in that war....namely, to "kill people and blow shit up". When you get expert training mixed with that message and most likely below average intelligence, which I'm sure these soldiers were, then unfortunately that line blurs....and you end up with pathetic and disgusting acts like this.
I'm not making an excuse for it and these soldiers should certainly be punished, but it's an unfortunate reality given the circumstances and I think the military as a whole does a good job condemning this sort of behavior.

Not sure I agree with the theory about the length of troop rotations, but then again I haven't been over there for a 15-month rotation...so who am I to talk?
I just think it probably has more to do with the screening process. The Army has missed its recruiting numbers several years running and they've responded by reducing the standards to fill their requirement.
I even saw a recent article that claimed they had completely relaxed their Physical Training program and their fitness standards in order to allow more people into the service....something I never saw coming from the Army, which prides itself on physical fitness.

i think you can throw out the screening process when you accept third strike offenders.

What pisses me off even more is that these fuckers are insulting our intelligence by claiming that shit was fake.

Sweet, so where's your outrage over our enemies killing unarmed men, women, children, decapitating journalists, etc?
You know, just to be consistent in your outrage...

Don't lump all muslims into one group.
Just like not all white guys are the same.

They are representative of the population as a whole.
Funny everyone gets upset about dogs and we have
how many children killed here in SA on a regular basis.
I don't condone doing that to animals, but I wished
some of you would get that upset about the Children.

Of course, since it's unrealistic to expect them to be choir boys to be in such a hostile environment, the least they can do is not to look like thugs in front of the populace that you are trying to convince to join your sides.
Optimally, they would act as our ambassadors abroad, but it's a war zone. Drunk, rude GIs are expected. Violent thugs are not.
Note: I am not saying that military is made of thugs. I never said that and don't anyone try to twist my words into that. We have some of the world's finest and bravest in uniforms fighting a war started by an incompetent leader (WMD? Wherefore art thou?). I am saying that someone nutcases slipped through. (See: Stephen Dale Green; LINK: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steven_Dale_Green)
This is because our military is stretched too thin to be supplied by people who have their head on straight.

I think we san safely say that the military has all types of criminals that society offers. When you look at the actual numbers, you find less soldiers who commit such atrocities as you find in society.
When I was in Germany, I knew a girl that was murdered by a MP. It's just simple statistical facts. It is 100% impossible to get people with 100% good character when dealing with such high numbers.
I think such threads are counterproductive to debate of any significance. I am very certain that more USA non-soldiers per capita abuse animals and people than USA soldiers per capita.

Obviously a propaganda thread. Pathetic to use emotion as a tool of swaying people.

I find that highly dubious. Especially when an average mind, trained inadequately to handle the stress, can do the most horrific of things in war time stress. I think the fault lies in our acceptance of substandard personnel into the army, our inability (or non-desire) to monitor those desirable soldiers for signs of emotional stress, and our improper training of those desirable soldier to cope with the wartime stress. We can brush it under the rug all we want, but I anticipate a nice batch of research subjects ready for me in the next ten to fifteen years as the psychological problems these soldiers face resurface over the upcoming years (assuming I later go into pharmacological research = $$$).

Over-educated idiot best describes you. Yeah, I just made
a judgement call. So what! You have no idea what
goes on in the military. None. Go back to you dumbass
lab and play with the bugs. Maybe you will find some
DNA with intelligence and it will infect you. sheeesh.
