View Full Version : Starting to think Beasley will lose out on POY

for multiple reasons:
a) the media will not want to select a frosh two years in a row (has been suggested by analysts such as Digger).
b) lot of hansbrough love out there right now. this, despite the fact that hansbrough clearly has more help than MB and has been less productive despite playing more minutes. hansbrough also has this going for him - not only is he a very hard worker, he manages to "look" like he is working very hard while doing it (i.e. Pete Rose). Beasley has been scoring through triple teams since November, so clearly he is working his ass off. But he makes it look too easy, which has actually been used as a knock against him by some of the more ignorant.
c) one plays at UNC, one plays at K-State, not hard to figure that this might come into play.

I can see why fans of KSt. would be bummed if he's not POY.
Any disappointment Beasley may have if that happense will only last until draft nite when he goes #1.

The only other choice for POY would be Kevin Love, not Hansbrough.

SI (along with most ESPN talking heads) just named Hansbrough their player of the year, so clearly he is the other choice.
Love's a tremendous player, a big reason why UCLA is one of the favorites, but you stack him up against Beasley and he falls well short (then again, so does Hansbrough).
If Beasley got the respect from the officials that Psycho T gets, he'd be up over 30 per game.

if UVa actually had a decent season, SS would be in the running. if only.

SS is also a great player, but even at his best, he's rather inefficient. his FG% this year is 42%, by far his career high.
that said, he does a lot of things well, certainly an all-ACC caliber talent, but not a POY candidate.

Love is better than Hansbrough so I don't buy it. I see no way that Beasley doesn't win it.

If Tyler Hansborough were black he'd be unworthy of note.

Sadly, there may be some truth to that.
You keep hearing how Hansbrough 'held' UNC together after a couple of injuries. Yeah, that really sucked when they only had 7 McDonald's All-Americans on the roster instead of 9...

Hansbrough also gets nod from the Sporting News. Beasley wins CBS Sportsline's honor.
The Around the Horn talking (idiots) heads split their vote 2-2.
Jay Bilas announced that he voted for Hansbrough, his reason being that - to the best his knowledge - there is no college basketball played outside the state of North Carolina.
