Twin Towers
Ok, here goes. Here's another way to measure the greatness of Tim Duncan.
Remember back in the day when the term "Twin Towers" was a fad?
Well, here's a list of the most notable twin tower tandems:
NBA
Ralph Sampson & Akeem Olajuwon, Houston Rockets
went to finals in Sampson's third year, Olajuwon's second, lost
David Robinson & Tim Duncan, Spurs
won two NBA titles
College
Sam Bowie & Melvin Turpin, Kentucky
destroyed by Patrick Ewing & Georgetown in Final Four
High School
Rashard Griffith & Thomas Hamilton, Chicago King
won Illinois state championship in 1993
WTC 1 & WTC 2
blown up by Dick Cheney in 2001
Notice anything here?
Once again, Tim Duncan is the best. The others all underachieved. It not all that easy for two 7-footers to work together. Sampson & Olajuwon might have, had Sampson not gone down with an injury, but they had their chance.
Bowie & Turpin never won anything.
Griffith & Hamilton won one state title, which isn't much compared to two NBA titles for Duncan & Robinson.
And you'd think a high school team with a 7 footer and a 7' 2" -er could win more than one state title.
