oh HELL no!

Tennessee Titans cornerback Pacman Jones says he's ready to play football again, telling an Atlanta radio station he believes his yearlong suspension from the NFL was enough of a penalty.

Oh, and he'd love to play for the Dallas Cowboys, too.

"I thought I was going to get back in eight games and then 10 games, and then you [have to] sit out the whole year," Jones told 680-AM on Thursday. The (Nashville) Tennessean reported details of the interview in Friday's editions.

"It is hard watching the whole season go by when you know that you are better than 90 percent of the people that's out there," Jones said. "I can't wait [to play], man. It is just a matter of time now. The hard part is over with for the most part. I am just waiting so when they pull the plug I am back on. I am in top-tip shape."

The NFL last month notified Jones, who has been arrested six times since Tennessee selected him in the 2005 draft, that he is not allowed to train at the Titans' facility and that his suspension will continue indefinitely. Jones' attorney, Manubir Arora, told ESPN.com in February he fears Jones' banishment could include the 2008 season.

Arora has been trying to facilitate his client's possible return to the league. Arora said he might re-petition commissioner Roger Goodell before the April 26-27 draft to see if Jones can return. The idea of getting some work done before the draft is to see if Jones could be traded if the Titans don't want him.

And if the Titans indeed trade Jones, Dallas is his desired destination. Jones has said he would like to play for the Cowboys and reiterated his interest when a caller to 680-AM brought it up.

"I just have to do what I have to do to get back on the field,'' Jones said, according to The Tennessean. "Hopefully it won't be long and hopefully it will be a couple of more months. I would love to play for the Cowboys, America's team.''

Goodell suspended Jones last April for the 2007 season for his off-field conduct. Jones settled charges from a Las Vegas strip club fight and triple shooting at the end of the 2007 NBA All-Star Weekend with a plea deal in December to a gross misdemeanor. Also, a Tennessee judge last month dismissed public intoxication and disorderly conduct charges from August 2006.

The final outstanding case against Jones, from Georgia in February 2006, was resolved last month when Jones entered an Alford plea to a felony count of obstruction of a police officer.

Jones didn't help himself, either, when it was reported he had been in an Atlanta strip club on Jan. 3 while his teammates were prepping for a playoff game.

His fondness for strip clubs was a topic of converstion during his Thursday radio interview. Jones told the show's hosts "I've got a [stripper's] pole in my house now." His agent, who was in the studio with Jones, said his client was kidding.

"Sometimes I make some bad decisions, it is not always that trouble seems to find me,'' Jones said, according to The Tennessean. "I am learning how to adjust to it and I am bettering myself as a person. I'm moving on and learning what I need to do to take care of myself and my family.''

In the interview, Arora said he is contacting college teams to to gauge their interest in having Jones speak about the consequences of making bad decisions, The Tennessean said.

if he pulls some stupid shit just cut his ass, it's not like the NFL has guaranteed contracts. you take a little bit of a cap hit but with a guy as talented as pacman, that's worth the risk.

i'd love for New England to go after him.

Sources: Dallas Cowboys consider Pacman Jones

Team has had internal talks about suspended cornerback

02:10 AM CST on Saturday, March 8, 2008
By CALVIN WATKINS / The Dallas Morning News

The wow factor that Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was talking about adding to his team could be Adam "Pacman" Jones.

According to multiple sources, the Cowboys have had internal discussions about obtaining the suspended Tennessee cornerback if he's reinstated by the NFL.

Jones has been suspended since April 2007 for violations of the NFL conduct policy.

Jones is considered one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL, and that alone has made the Cowboys think about bringing him to Dallas, according to the sources.

There would be numerous obstacles, starting with the suspension.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said commissioner Roger Goodell will review Jones' case before training camps start in July.

And should Jones be reinstated, the Cowboys would have to work out a trade with the Titans.

But the Titans could also release Jones, putting him on the open market.

Jones' Atlanta-based attorney, Manny Arora, did not return a phone call seeking comment, but he told The (Nashville) Tennessean he planned to ask Goodell to re-examine Jones' suspension before the April 26-27 NFL draft.

On Thursday, Jones again said he wants to play for the Cowboys, on an Atlanta radio station.

"I just have to do what I have to do to get back on the field," he said. "Hopefully it won't be long, and hopefully it will be a couple of more months. I would love to play for the Cowboys, America's Team."

If the Cowboys acquire Jones, he would join Pro Bowl cornerback Terence Newman and Anthony Henry, who led the team with six interceptions in 2007. Jones would also be a leading candidate to return punts.

In 2006, he averaged 12.9 yards per return with three touchdowns.

The Cowboys have signed players with troubled pasts before. The team signed nose tackle Tank Johnson last season after he served a suspension for violations of the NFL conduct policy. Johnson maintained a good relationship with Goodell during his suspension, and the Cowboys touted their off-field player programs headed by director Bryan Wansley and consultants Calvin Hill and Jacqualene Stephens.

Last month, he entered a guilty plea on charges of felony obstruction of officers stemming from an incident in Georgia.

Jones said he's made some bad decisions.

"It is not always that trouble seems to find me," he told the radio station. "I am learning how to adjust to it, and I am bettering myself as a person."

The Cowboys seem to be the best in the NFL at keeping players in line..

Post Irvin era that is....haha..

JJ has said many times they have a very deep and "invested" system in place to oversee players.

Yea this is the key. The have a former player overseeing this program, players like Tank have to meet with them weekly. It holds them accountable, they work with them to fill their time with worthy causes instead of getting in trouble. Having pacman on the boys roster would be huge, espicially in nickel and dime situations. Not sure if he would start right away, but this could potentially cause Henry to move to safety and for Roy to be more serious trade bait for some other needs.

Pacman isn't going to suddenly turn the Cowboys into a team full of bad individuals. They've been a team of bad individuals for almost twenty years now, and that's if you don't count their child molesting kicker from the 70s.

I think as a public figure, you're always a target. I differentiate the situations in that no one was killed by Tank's BG, possibly at his bequest.

You're also never going to get Pacman on a cheap non-guaranteed contract, and anything else is juggling lit dynamite.

According to RotoTimes sources, Pacman Jones and the Cowboys have agreed to terms on a deal that would allow the talented defensive back/special teamer to play in Dallas this season. The Titans gave Jones and his agent permission to seek a trade, but at this point there are no definitive or confirmed terms to report. While Jones and the Cowboys may have agreed to compensation between the two parties, Jerry Jones and Tennessee have to reach an agreement as well. Stay tuned.

March 20, 2008
Following up on several RotoTimes reports Thursday morning, and confirming site sources; Calvin Watkins told the Dallas Morning News that the Cowboys are discussing a trade with the Tennessee Titans that would grant Pacman Jones his wish of coming to Dallas. Much like earlier announcements, nothing is imminent between the two side. The Cowboys and Titans have discussed a late-round pick as the compensation. More to come as this story develops.

Trading a 4-5 rounder is fine with me, giving him a 2 year contract similar to Tank Johnson. Let him earn a big payday. If it doesn't work out, Fuck'em. Send him to flipping burgers or wrestling, or throwing the rest of his money away. If it works out, then that really adds nice piece to the D and special teams. Looks like a win for us with out a whole lot of downside.

Heard the Cowboys lead reporter on the Ticket in Dallas (Mickey Spagnola) talk about this today…

1. Most of this is coming from his agent
2.Roger said that at this time he is not addressing the Pacman issue until 1 week before training camp although I am sure Jerry can force his hand

Although the Dallas Cowboys can’t comment publicly about their interest in acquiring suspended Titans defensive back Adam “Pacman” Jones, it appears they are seriously considering the idea.

NFL sources said the Cowboys are looking into the possibility of trading for Jones, but that the discussions are moving at a slow pace. The third-year cornerback missed all of last season after he was suspended by the league for multiple off-the-field incidents.

Jones has yet to be reinstated but that wouldn’t prevent the Titans from trading him to another team. A suspended player can be traded but he would not be eligible to play until the suspension is lifted.

League spokesman Greg Aiello said in an e-mail Thursday, “[Jones] has been told that there will be a decision on his status for the 2008 [season] at some point prior to the opening of training camps. The commissioner will review all relevant facts, including his conduct over the past year, and make a decision.”

The Titans would probably prefer to trade Jones before the NFL Draft when he would command more in return.

NFL sources said the Cowboys could potentially offer a second-day draft pick, probably as high as a fourth-rounder, to obtain Jones. Last season the Patriots traded a fourth-round pick to Oakland in return for receiver Randy Moss.

Clayton confirms that Dallas is showing the most early interest, but won't rule out New Orleans or New England as suitors. If Jones is reinstated sooner than expected as Clayton alludes to, several other clubs will likely jump into the mix. Clayton believes a fifth-round pick could get a Pacman trade done.

For a 5th? Absolutely. You give him a contract full of performance and behavior clauses and get it done.

Per Peter King of CNNSI.com, he thinks that JJ will pull the trigger on a two first round picks for the #4 pick to get McFadden and sees the possiblity of Ocho Cinco going to Dallas for the Cowboys #1 in 2009.

What is the organization's No. 1 priority between now and training camp?

"Without question, creating a threat on the other side of the ball from [Eldorado] Owens," said Jerry.

Just what I wanted to hear. Many others haven't agreed, but to me, finding another receiver, or two, topped any list of needs.

"I've ruled out nothing when it comes to those options, or possible options," said Jerry.

That statement is backed by another NFL voice who said Friday, "within the league, you hear the Cowboys are attempting, or will attempt, to work a trade for Chad Johnson, for Roy Williams, for maybe others."

how could he be a cowboy by next week but if it isnt getting reviewed til july??

Dont know, but I have never heard of a suspended player being traded, and I also just heard Chris Mortenson say on NFL Live that suspended players cant be traded.

Maybe mort is wrong, maybe you can trade the contract of a suspended player, but I was pretty sure you couldnt.

Tank Johnson was released by the Bears.

Just because you're released doesn't mean anything. He was still suspended.

You can be traded while suspended.

However, Jones doesn't have to be reinstated to be traded to another team. And that's where the Cowboys and possibly some other teams will get into the picture.

He can work out and get treatments.

But he wouldn't be able to attend meetings or practice in mini camp.

There are "rumblings in league circles" that the Cowboys are the only team seriously pursuing Pacman Jones, according to the Dallas Morning News.

If so, they might not have to give up as high a pick as the fifth-rounder ESPN's John Clayton suggested. Clayton also called New Orleans a possible landing spot. The Morning News reports the Patriots don't have Pacman on their radar.

Just because your suspended it doesn't mean your entire career freezes. It just gets restricted.

You still have rights as a player but your involvment with a team changes.

When Tank became a Cowboy Jerry Jones was still haggling with the league on when he could play.

I read which said the Titans are willing to accept a fifth, maybe even a sixth for him, which is closer to what I'd be willing to risk.

There always seem to be some good players available in the fourth (Chris Canty, Marion Barber), although you can also easily miss in that round, and I don't think giving up that pick for a player who is in the no-tolerance zone would be wise. But like everyone says, the potential high reward with Adam Jones is very intriguing.

Now, I'd give up a conditional fourth in 2009, but nothing higher than a fifth this year.

That is likely to be what it will come to. Depending on how many teams are really willing to deal for his sorry -ss.

THIS IS FROM THE ESPN INTERVIEW WITH PACMAN JONES ANDF MICHAEL IRVIN.

************************************************** *******

Pacman Jones' childhood is a sad story. His dad was murdered two doors down when he was 8 years old. His mom has fought drug addiction for years. The grandmother who raised him died when he was a freshman in college.

Michael Irvin had Pacman tell that tale.

Pacman has either been coached well on what to say today or finally gets it. He hasn't made any excuses for his horrible behavior and says to point the finger at him for his problems. He talked about having to separate himself from family members and childhood friends who have been his wingmen.

"It's getting to the point where it ain't no time for slip-ups right now," Pacman said. "It's like I'm on the cliff right now. One slip-up and it's off the cliff."

I am taking stuff form a live blog right now (above post as well) from dallas news.com as they are listening to Irvin interview Pacman
************************************************** ************

Pacman Jones has said a whole bunch of things over the last few weeks. Finally, I think the magic words came out of his mouth ...

"I'd be really lucky to get another shot," he said.

That's a big one for him, I believe. It's Pacman saying that his talent alone does not give him the right to play in the league.

Another thing he addressed was his visit to a New York gentlemen's club on his trip to visit commissioner Roger Goodell last year.

"It was a bad decision," Jones said. "It was one of the dumbest decisions I've ever made. ... It's just not going to happen anymore."

As Timmy said, Pacman's playing his cards right here. Finally.

This has turned into a complete disaster for Pacman Jones.

I've lost count of the number of off-field fiascoes they've discussed. I do know exactly how many Pacman took blame for: zero.

I especially liked his explanation for why he wasn't smoking weed when an officer pulled him over and caught a contact buzz when Pacman rolled down the window.

"I was in the program at that point, so there was no way I could have been smoking at that point," Pacman said, referring to the NFL's program for guys who have already flunked a drug test. "Period, point blank."

So Pacman couldn't have been smoking weed because he was a proven drug user. Huh?

He did fess up to making it rain in the Las Vegas strip club the night a bouncer got paralyzed by a bullet. But, hey, he wasn't the only one throwing piles of cash in the air!!

Evan

Agent/lawyer/enabler Manny Arora grabbed a microphone and tried to set the record straight about the Vegas strip club shooting.

The media blew Pacman Jones' involvement out of proportion so they could report a "sexy" story. He didn't do anything wrong, Arora insisted.

Pacman did plea no-contest to a misdemeanor charge of conspiracy to commit disorderly conduct, which would seem to indicate that he did something wrong.

Michael Irvin asked Pacman Jones to compare himself to the cornerbacks who have been cashing in with high-eight-figure deals.

"I'm the best. Hands down," Pacman said. "As far as the complete package goes, I'm the best."

Pacman might be overrating himself a tad, but there's no doubt that he's a phenomenal talent. He acknowledged that his "stupidity" has come close to costing him his career.

Pacman has willingly admitted making dumb mistakes that led to his suspension. But he didn't take blame for any of the crimes on his record. Very confusing.

Pacman set the record straight. "I'm taking responsibility for all my actions. Everything he read on that paper [listing arrests], I'm taking responsibility for."

Cowboys sweeten offer for Pacman
Posted: Wednesday March 26, 2008 10:20PM; Updated: Thursday March 27, 2008 9:58AM

By Bucky Brooks, SI.com

Pacman Jones has made it clear he wants to be a Cowboy. Dallas is doing its part to make sure that happens.

After their initial offer of a seventh-round draft pick to the Titans for their suspended cornerback was rejected, the Cowboys have upped their proposal to include a player along with the late-round selection, a source told SI.com.

The Titans are warming to the offer, according to the source, but a few financial ramifications need to be addressed before the deal can be consummated. Jones has two years remaining on his original five-year, $30 million deal, and the Cowboys want to redo that contract, likely to a one-year deal to protect their interests. Jones is on record stating his willingness to renegotiate the contract and his agent, Manny Arora, reportedly met with Cowboys' officials earlier in the week to address the situation.

Jones is currently suspended by the NFL and awaiting reinstatement from commissioner Roger Goodell. Though Jones' off-field woes detract from his talent - he's been arrested six times since May 2005 -- the Titans realize Jones is a Pro Bowl-caliber player and are attempting to recoup some value in exchange for the troubled star. Jones was the Titans' best defensive player when he last suited up for them in 2006, and his electrifying return skills make him an impact player in two phases of the game.

"The kid was the sixth pick in the draft and we need to get something of value in return," an unnamed Titans official said.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/football/nfl/03/26/jones.trade/index.html

I read somewhere that the Boys initally offered a list of names to the Titans of players they would trade for the Pac. Im guessing it will be someone like Akin or maybe a reciever like Miles Austin. Seems like a lot for a guy who might not play. Odell Thurman hasnt been reinstated in like two years and he did a hell of a lot less than the Pac.

The Titans have given Pacman Jones permission to seek a trade, and feel that his career with in Tennessee is over.

"We’ve given them permission to look for a new home and whatever happens after that happens... Because of his choices and such off the field, he’s created a situation where he’s going to have to look elsewhere," Fisher said. Fisher seemed to indicate that the only way Pacman wouldn't be shipped off is if the commissioner's office cancels a trade.

Who do y'all think is the player the cowboys are including?

Carpenter? any opinions?

Herschel Walker

Carpenter would be a bigger cap hit if traded than someone like Akin (I believe), so it's probably someone with less money per year in salary + bonus. Carpenter's salary is fairly low but he has a few years left to prorate and that 1st round pick bonus that would be prorated and hit the cap as well.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports a deal that would send suspended CB Pacman Jones to the Cowboys is imminent.

The Cowboys and Titans reportedly spent Thursday working out the deal. Tennessee is asking for a third-round pick, while Dallas is only offering a sixth-rounder. However, it won't be too hard to bridge that gap by making the pick conditional. Dallas appears confident Jones will be reinstated for 2008.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports trade talks between the Cowboys and Titans involving Pacman Jones have resumed "in a big way."

Schefter says a deal could be in place by Tuesday. The Cowboys have reportedly been sticking to their offer of a sixth-round pick, while the Titans are holding out for a fourth-rounder. If a trade happens, it will have no bearing on whether Pacman is reinstated from suspension

"After more than a week of inactivity, the Titans and Cowboys once again are talking about a trade involving suspended cornerback Pacman Jones. One of Jones' agents thinks that if a deal is going to get done, it will be this week. The two sides continue to talk about draft pick compensation for Jones while also trying to work through compromises related to signing bonus money already paid to Jones."

This deal will happen. The titans need to stop trying this bullshit trick of getting a higher pick. It isnt going to work and they wont get anything better than what is offered right in front of them right now. Plus the only team Pacman wants to go to is Dallas.

Herschel Walker

I think the big hold up is mostly centered around Pacman's contract and bonus situation. That has to be ironed out as well as pick compensation. No big hurry, the guy isn't even able to practice or workout, and may not be able to for a while if at all.

Pacman Jones will wait to apply for reinstatement to the NFL.

The original plan was to file papers Tuesday, but that has changed. Jones is apparently waiting for his trade to the Cowboys to happen. "I was going to file for reinstatement but I wanted the situation to work out," he told the Michael Irvin show.
