yep...even had to use it in college physics for engineers/science majors because "everyone" didn't have a calculator.

I've seen a real slide rule before.

Years ago.

I'm done with ancient technology.
However, I still use an abacus.

LOL

I prefer to call it experience and staying power.

Hey, I just asked a question...it wasn't necessarily an admission of guilt. :angel

We had slide rules in grade school...

- No running up the ladder
- Wait till the person in front of you is off before sliding
- No peeing on the slide
- No pelting sliders with pebbles

etc.

On a standard slide rule, never learned to do anything but multiply.

However, when I was learning to fly, they used a special circular slide rule for many calculations...

My dad's degrees were in math and physics so they were all over our house.

The only time I used them, however, was to whack my younger brother.

I was going to participate in this debate, but then saw Katy's post. Now I'll deny it no matter what!

We had a coffee can on top of the fridge at my house where my parents kept all the rulers (the equivalent at my house of keeping guns locked up from the kids) but there was a slide rule in there. I never thought to ask about it but there is no conceivable reason why my parents would have it around. My father was a high school AP with a history degree and my mom taught theatre before becoming a full time baby factory. Next time I call them I'll have to ask. They probably beat up some geek and kept it as a trophy.

What kind of retarded ruler is that?

I sure am glad my iPod has a built-in Measurator.
