According to this chart, Tim Duncan is the 10th best player of all time:

Rank Player HoF Prob

1. Bill Russell* 1.0000
2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar* 1.0000
3. Michael Jordan 1.0000
4. Wilt Chamberlain* 1.0000
5. Magic Johnson* 1.0000
6. Larry Bird* 1.0000
7. Bob Pettit* 1.0000
8. Bob Cousy* 1.0000
9. Shaquille O'Neal 1.0000

http://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/hof_prob_career.html

I'd rank the top ten in this order:

1. Jordan
2. Jabber
3. Magic
4. Russell
5. Duncan
6. Bird
7. Cousy
8. Shaq
9. Chamberlain
10. Karl Malone

Duncan can move up the list, if he adds more championships or continues to play at a 1st Team, All-NBA level.

Please discuss.

I don't think it means he's the 10th best player of all-time. I think it means that his resume makes him the 10th most likely player to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame -- and actually, he's in a flat-footed tie with 20 other players who are (or were) also mortal locks for the Hall of Fame.

All-Time, Duncan might make top five. He should.

I pretty much agree, but I'd put Magic ahead of Kareem, and Chamberlain needs to move up a few spots.

Wilt should top the list based on number of points (only second to Jordon by 0.001 points and the number of rebounds & assists.

Tim is the greatest power forward in the history of the game, but I don't put him above Wilt, Oscar, Russell, Jordan, Magic, or Kareem. And, it's a toss-up whether I put him past Bird and Shaq, but I would lean towards yes if pressed to answer one way or another.

Well, he has three championship first of all. And, while he had a very good supporting cast around him, he was the best player on all three of those championship teams.

Bird is the reason I'm an NBA fan.
His resume is great, he had that leadership quality and the winning above all mentality.
And he played with passion. Left it all on the court every night.
Towards the end of his career, I'll never forget watching him lay on the sidelines because of how much his back hurt. And then watching him get back in the game and play his heart out.

Oh...he has 3 championships, but only 2 finals MVP's (to go along with his 3 league MVP's.)

I can't put Bird against Duncan though.
I'll let those chips fall where they may. :)

I love Bird, when i was a kid i thought he was awesome, but all around from an impact point of view Tim is just better. Look at game 6 Suns last year. Timmy dominated the hell out of that game on both ends. He scored when he had too, blocked shots and altered the hell out of countless others. He was dominating the paint on both ends, like an animal. Bird just could not do all that on both ends like Tim can.

the real joke is the salaries... Shaq made 231.614.005 dollars since his rookie year.
I knew it but still can't believe it

It would be great to see Bird v. Duncan 1 on 1 both in their prime to settle that dispute.

I'd put Magic ahead of Jordan

Why? That wouldn't settle anything. We all know that Duncan would abuse Bird in the post and that Bird would light Duncan up from the perimeter. Two different types of players that would most likely not match-up in a regular game of 5-on-5 except on switches. A one-on-one game wouldn't prove anything except that both could fairly easily score on the other.

they had a jabbar vs erving matchup after both of them retired just to see who was better. dumb idea. of course, jabbar abused erving. but it didn't settle the argument.
