Popular Tejano Singer Arrested for DWI

San Antonio Tejano singer Emilio Navaira is in trouble with the law again. Early Monday morning Navaira was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

Police say he rolled his SUV on I-35 near Loop 410. Navaira refused a blood test, and then failed a field sobriety test. The Grammy Award-winning Tejano recording artist was set free after arranging a $3,500 bond.

He spoke to News 4 WOAI after he made bond. "We slipped, and my car just turned around, and it happened," said Navaira.

In 2002, Navaira pleaded no contest to a DWI charge and completed probation. An assault charge against the singer in 2000 was dropped. He also told News 4 this experience has taught him a lesson to not drink and drive.

Navaira, known simply as Emilio to fans, sustained minor cuts to his hands, and was treated at University Hospital.

According to the police report, Navaira failed a sobriety test that officers administered after noticing his bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. The musician told officers he had consumed "only three drinks" of Jack Daniels and Coca-Cola and had lost control of his vehicle because the roadway was slick.

The San Antonio native has been honored at least two dozen times by the Tejano Music Awards. He won the Grammy Award in 2003 for best Tejano album.

During George W. Bush's last gubernatorial bid in 1998, Navaira accompanied the Republican on a tour of South Texas towns, performing a song he wrote in support of Bush.

My aunt's sister is Cindy, Emilio's ex-wife. I've been on many vacation's and family get together's with Emilio(loser) his kids and Cindy's family. I even dated one of their nephews. Big jerk. Bought his GF fake ass Boobies and ran away with her to Mexico for a while.

His kids are really talented though. They have a band and JR sings and plays the guitar while the younger one has mastered the drums. Good little rock band that covers beatles songs. Poor kids. Thank god their nothing like their father.
