They had one scene together, kind of, in "Heat".

They had the restaurant booth scene together, but they weren't on camera at the same time. Both actors shot that scene at two different times with "head doubles" playing the back of the head of the guy not focal in the shot.

Besides De Niro, Donny Wahlberg is the best actor of the bunch.

Are you basing this on his great acting in Saw II?

He's no Mark Wahlberg.

No, I'm basing it on his great acting in Band Of Brothers.

Are you basing Pacino on his great acting in Gigli?

Pacino is the most overrated actor of our time.

No, I'm basing it on Godfather I & II, Serpico, Sea of Love, Glengarry Glen Ross, Donnie Brasco, The Insider, and The Merchant of Venice.

I think he's got one leg up on your New Kids On The Block boy Donnie "I wish I had my brother's talent" Wahlberg.

I didn't refute that Al Pacino was a good actor 30 years ago. It's great that he could show some measure of subtlety back in 1974.

But as far as recently, Donnie Wahlberg's done just as much good work as Pacino. And Pacino's been in just as much unwatchable crap as Donnie Wahlberg, probably more.

And he sucked hard in Glengarry Glen Ross.

Pacino was also great in Simone and Dick Tracy.

I agree that Pacino has been crap for quite a while now. He was phenomenal in The Godfather I and II but that Pacino is long gone now.

I wonder when was the last time a director told Pacino "try to play it subtle"

I don't think it's happened in 30 years. either that or it did, but Pacino screamed "whoo ahhh!" in his face.

I think he lost all sense of subtlety after Scent of a Woman.

I think he lost it after Scarface, but nobody realized he lost it until after Scent Of A Woman, when everyone did a double-take and said "Wait a minute, he got an Oscar for THAT????"

Pacino is sooooooooooooooooo overrated, though. He's responsible for three of the most amazing performances put on film, a couple others that are decent, but everything else he's ever done is bad enough it's almost unwatchable.

I think he lost it after Scarface, but nobody realized he lost it until after Scent Of A Woman, when everyone did a double-take and said "Wait a minute, he got an Oscar for THAT????"That comment implies that he still had a measure of subtlety in Scarface, which is an assertion literally saturated with pure insanity.

:lol yeah, what I meant was that Scarface was the movie where he went so over-the-top that it should have been evident to everyone that the guy's acting motor was stuck on "overkill" and would never go back down. But people in general didn't figure this out until the "whoo ahhh!" movie.

He was surprisingly understated in Carlito's Way, which not surprisingly was probably the last good movie he made.

I think we've had this conversation before. Tommy Lee Jones went on a streak after he got nominated for an Oscar for The Fugitive where he was playing Sam Gerrard for a couple years straight. Thankfully he seems to have broken out of that. Al Pacino won an Oscar for overacting his ass off in Scent of a Woman and never looked back. I would never call his performance particularly good, but it's fun to watch. The Devil's Advocate was a piece of shit, but if I see it's on I always make a point to watch the last ten minutes or so. Again, horrible over acting, but you can tell he's having fun and that makes it sorta enjoyable.

Scarface is the most over rated movie of all time.it became that way whenever the "urban" society high-jacked it and MTV Cribs practically sponsored that happening.

BaD Radio fans know this one all too well.

What do you get when you take a washed-up director incapable of writing a scene that isn't infested with cliches and team him with the most over-the-top actor on the planet?

You get the "inspirational speech" from Any Given Sunday.
