I wonder if he ever completely kicked the drug habit...

My friend Joe loves to tell the story of how he and his law school buddies would drink at a bar that Lohaus frequented and/or owned in Iowa. One night he got to actually shake Brad's hand, told him that he was his favorite player on NBA Jam, and then went to the bathroom and puked in a urinal.
I guess the moral of my story is thank goodness the Spurs didn't draft my friend Joe.

I used to work part-time as a busboy at Karam's Cantina on Zarzamora and Commerce. The little money I made went to buy Spurs tickets. Could not afford the nicer seats in the Hemisphere arena and usually found myself behind those freakin support beams. But I didn't realy mind since the whole place rocked with fans screaming. I'm sorry, no one can duplicate the energy that George Gervin put on the floor even by today's standards; no disrespect to Robinson, Duncan, or Manu.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lloyd_Daniels
Lloyd Daniels (born September 4, 1967 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American former professional basketball player. The 6'7" guard never played in college, nor was drafted by an NBA team, but he did manage to play five seasons for six NBA teams: the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Lakers, Sacramento Kings, New Jersey Nets and Toronto Raptors.
In his career, Daniels played in 200 NBA games and scored 1,411 points. Prior to his NBA career, he played in the GBA, the New Zealand Basketball Association, CBA, the USBL[1], and also in Greece with AEK Athens BC and in Turkey with Galatasaray. He played in Italy with Scavolini Pesaro in 1995/96 season with an average of 23 ppg.
Daniels is considered a New York City basketball playground legend.
On May 11, 1989, Daniels was shot three times in the chest and survived.[2] He still has a bullet lodged in his right shoulder.[3]
In October 2005, Lloyd tried to revive his career by trying out with the Strong Island Sound of the American Basketball Association.[4]
His nickname Swee'Pea is a reference to the Popeye cartoon character of the same name.

(Didn't see the LD post before I posted, but here it is):
He never played college ball, although he briefly attended UNLV.
This article, from the New York Times archives was written in 1989. It briefly explains a bit of his past prior to joining the Spurs in '92.

Someone also wrote a book about him (and other NY legends):

I actually like the "Birdman." It really sounds like he's got his act together, so I hope he does well. Since he's sober now, with a good training camp after the summer, I'd expect him to have a pretty solid season next year -- maybe a 10-12 ppg and 8 rpg guy. Of course, it all depends on his minutes, but he could very well be a starter on a good number of teams (especially in the East).
