Talk all you want about Finley.
Where was our leader, Tim Duncan?

A shadow of his former self.

Supergirl
03-17-2008, 10:14 PM
What the hell is going on with Duncan? 10 pts 8 rebounds in possibly the most important game of the regular season? Against the likely NBA Finals matchup, assuming the Spurs make it that far, first game home after a brutal road trip and now a 4 game losing streak?

I am officially worried about Duncan.

Spurs had a chance to win it there both in the final seconds, thanks to Bowen's steal - Horry was absolutely the person we'd want to take that 3 in that moment - but also had a chance to win it earlier in the quarter when they were up by 7. So I'm not worried about the Spurs as a team as much as I am about Duncan. He should have come out a lot stronger in the 4th quarter. And I'm worried about our bench. After a great first quarter we can virtually nothing from anyone except Manu.

Don't worry about Tim, he'll be ready when Playoffs start!

Just remember when he wasn't good in 2006 and he was deadly against the mavs in the playoffs!

Celts were great as a team but we were missing our true leader and we managed to compete even when he was passive.

I still like our chances with Duncan MVP caliber vs Ray Allen back in the team!

Boston is good but until they prove it in the playoffs I am not a believer. No matter what I believe in the Spurs....We will make the playoffs. Just cheer please we didn't get blown out and were in it the whole game. I don't remember the Spurs being that team that blows out teams. :depressed Spurs age is showing. It's easy to start off the game well, playing aggressive, hustling. As the game progresses you saw what happens to an old team in the 2nd half. Celtics came out running and aggressive in the 2nd half. Spurs role players barely had energy, their old legs making them short on a lot of jumshots, their old legs making them slow on rotations, etc.

Pop's rotations also piss me off. Why NOT try playing Bonner? Why NOT put Finley in the doghouse? Why did he even HAVE Finley in the game with 3 minutes left?

Finley is letting everyone down. he's making poor decisions, can't hit shots, no playing defense. It's like he's sucking the energy out of his teammates.

Steve Smith situation here. Does Finley simply not have the legs left to do anything anymore? if that's the case you gotta bench him.

This also pissed me off...Horry played a magnificent game, but why does Michael come in for the last 3-4 minutes and Horry sits the rest of the game out until that last few seconds. Why not bring Horry back in instead of Finley when clearly Horry was playing way better than Michael tonight. Why does Michael get the crunch time minutes? Steve Smith POP. WAKE UP.

Pop is smoking some crazy stuff on the bench there.

This is literally "Team" Duncan's team (pun intended). It only goes as far as Tim takes it. Now, I begin to wonder whether Duncan's mileage is beginning to take its toll on the big guy, or he's just saving himself up for the games that really matters. I'm beginning to feel that it's more of the former, than the latter.

Traditionally, March is when Duncan starts asserting himself and starts showing everyone why he is in the class of MJ, Magic and Bird. This year, Garnetts and even "Dalemberts" are showing no fear against the greatest power forward in NBA history, even at this late stage of the season.

It's disheartening to be a Spurs fan nowadays. The 11-game winning streak seems so long ago, and with the benefit of hindsight, was just a prelude before we entered the eye of the storm. Now, we're in the middle. No Manu or Tony can right this ship, and lead our Spurs to a repeat. Tim Duncan is our only hope. He is our only salvation.

And these recent games are beginning to look like his eulogies.

NEWS FLASH
Spurs superstar and future Hall Of Famer David Robinson has been arrested in connection with the knife assault of Spurs guard Michael Finley after Monday's home loss to the Boston Celtics. Moday's game marked an unbelievable stretch in which Finley was unfathomably useless. Sources close to the team were tight lipped about the incident but murmmerings amongst Spurs fans and innanet messageboard users were that Findog sucked ass and need to be dealt with accordingly. Matt Bonner could not be found for comment.

The problem with the Spurs is not the occasional off-game by Tim Duncan. The problem with the Spurs is that anytime somebody other than the Big 3 scores in double figures, it's an anomaly, and most of the role players are equally ineffective on the defensive side as well.

It looks for all the world like Robert Horry, Jacque Vaughn, Damon Stoudamire, and most especially Michael Finley, simply can't squeeze any more game out of their aged bodies. Bruce Bowen still has something left, but his decline is obvious. Unfortunately, the Spurs just don't have enough other bodies to keep from playing those guys. Getting Barry will help... a little... but he's not exactly "fresh legs." Overall, the only athletic players on the team are Parker and Ginobili.

Consistently, we are seeing the Spurs run out of gas at the end of games, either giving up a decisive 10-2 run in the final couple minutes, or just crapping out in the second half and getting blown out. The Big 3 have played too many minutes this season carrying the dead weight of the old farts to keep doing it now.

Basically, somebody has to do the improbable and get hot at the right time for the Spurs to do anything in the postseason. The only players with enough physical capability to do that at this point are Ime Udoka and Brent Barry, and putting trust that either of those guys will be the difference-maker is a rather faint hope.

Shit, I know this is just basketball, but this one just makes me so mad and it makes it even harder to keep on believing. But for whatever it's worth, I still believe this team will win it all this year. You've got 15 games to right the ship, San Antonio. Do it.

I'm still going to cheer for the Spurs. It's hard to not be pissed but they are trying so we can't fault them. They just don't have it. I'm not going to expect much this year and if it turns out otherwise? Then hey, all the more better. They are still a good team and they have been a damn good team for so long and I think we are pretty spoiled, as we (myself included) are considering this season a disappointment. The Orlando Magic are having their best year since, what, the 90's? And we are still better record wise than they are. In our "worst" year. Not too bad I would say. We can probably make it out of the first round but as usual, I think the semifinals will be our kryptonite this year. Maybe this will wake the front office up and push them to go after better players, spend time investing in young talent and spending a little extra money to get some decent players. Anyway, a tough loss to swallow but nothing lasts forever...

The lowlight for me was watching Rondo grab that O rebound while three spurs were around him still motionless.
I thought we had a chance after we left KG with that open brick. We shouldn't have doubled him as much I thought, it was the other Cs that really hurt us and we all know how KG is in crunchtime.

What really sucks is the WAY they lost...I could understand if it was a tight, back-and-forth game the whole way through, and the Celtics hit a last second shot to win the game...I'd still feel bad about the loss, but I'd understand. Pretty much. Spurs can get lucky and get a favorable matchup in the first couple of rounds. But at this point, I don't know how they'll be able to play on the road against teams like the Jazz, a healthy Lakers team, or even a Mavs team without HCA. As Barkley mentioned, in the West this season, you have to grab a top 4 seed, otherwise it's too much to think a team at the bottom half can win 3 straight games without HCA.

That's rather arrogant but it's the absolute truth. If we don't repeat, everything in this season means absolutely nothing. It's a failure no matter what. We could lose in the Finals in 7 games, with losing game 7 by 1 point off of a buzzer beater, and it would be a failure.

Could time finally be catching up with the Spurs??? They just seem to get tired so much now. Losing games in the 4th quarter is the hallmark of a physically tired team. Maybe this Spurs team just doesn't have any more left in the tank. Maybe it's time for Pop to get some young blood and start rebuilding.

On the other hand...yes, it was a loss, but it was to the team with the best record in the NBA...they are #1 for a reason...at least it wasn't the Knicks... :lol

Regular season games do not win championships. They are simply for season entertainment. Which is why true sportsfans call the playoffs the 'real' season. Relax guys, they are in a funk, they'll bounce back. And NO, they are not too old. They've played a shit load of games with not so much rest, therefore, it proves that they are indeed HUMAN. Once they catch their breath, they'll bounce back. Once the playoffs start, you'll see that they are virtually impossible to be beaten in a 7-game series. It's been PROVEN time and time again. Trust me, they are still the team to beat once the 'real' season arrives. I'm sure may anti-Spurs folks will disagree, but as I've said in the past...."ALL IN GOOD TIME". For sure the Spurs will play better in the Playoffs.

Problem right now is if they keep screwing around, they're going to miss the Playoffs completely. Spurs 3 losses away from missing the Postseason and 3 away from a top seed.

This applies to all the Western teams, you can't be dropping 4 games in a row this year, it's too tight. Every game is vital.

It's got to be completely disheartening to have a 22 pt lead completely pissed away and have the game snatched right from your fingertips in the very end.
