View Full Version : Spurs-Celts Post Game: Now what?

-Finley sucks. He just sucks. Should have retired. If you don't agree you haven't been paying any attention this season.
-Manu needs to realize, he is not Jordan. Just take a small step back and we had the game locked up to win.
-Duncan gets the ball down low and just, waits? What for? The defense clamps down quick huh Tim? I know man, it don't help when the other four guys on the team stand there like, "do something Tim!"
-Ime is not a prime time performer. He can hit some shots in a game but during clutch moments he proves he either just can't learn fast enough or doesn't have it in him to be here at all.
To me the rest is just the same crap. They go flat in a matter of seconds and just routinely think teams will not answer? Offense this year is really gross. The 24 second violations. Don't even compare team ppg this year versus another year because this team should be putting up 100 a game. Period folks.
So we have lost to every good team and some bad ones we can this season in bad ways. What now?
I believe come playoff time but these end of the season Spurs look like the wheels are wobbly.

Everyone else is fine. They bring something to the table so you can live with there misakes.
It's just Finley that sucks. If he were on the bench we would have beaten Denver, Phoenix, Detroit, Philly, and Boston tonight.

the reality is that the spurs lost to a team that is way out of their league.
had allen played, the spurs wouldn't have even been in this one. This was the one game to right the ship and instead it got sunk into oblivion.
at this point, we can focus on the off-season and clear our nursery home of a bench.

-Kendrick Perkins made Duncan look like a big stinky gaping baby during the third quarter. Duncan played as passively as I've ever seen him during that third quarter. I rarely hate on the big fella, but it was sick, he let his team down in that quarter, hardcore.
-Parker and Ginobili dribbling the shot clock down and waiting till 9 seconds to make a move late in the fourth when we're still up (by 2-4) was a lazy, stupid mistake
-Horry should have made that shot. Every basketball god in the entire universe set up a perfect Horry Scenario, perhaps Big Shot Rob is just a thing of the past.

Ancient players. Failure to re-tool. I agree on Udoka - I like him, but he's not the absolute punch in the arm some expected. He's a good role player, but when we badly need scoring we're counting on graybeards to do the job.
It's wrong to expect Barry to be a savior.

I said this exact same thing in the game thread against the sixers.
the previous time we played the suns and won 84-81, we went on a huge tear.
we play phoenix again on april 9th, I believe.
maybe we can win and go on another run? :wtf

In the last 10 games Finley has shot 23 of 71, or .324. He cannot create any shot any more and he cannot penetrate. The only thing he can do is hang on the arc and shot threes.
It is time Pop pulled him from the starting rotation. Do it Pop. It is do or die time.

- With Allen, I don't think that Cassell would have played that good with his limited minutes. He was torching us in the first half and kept the Celts in the game.
- Ducan was completely passive in offense
- Double teaming KG at the end of the game was clearly a bad idea as they managed to put a dagger on us each time, I prefer our chances on KG vs Duncan rather leaving 1 guy left for an open jumper!

Actually, what's scarier than the Spurs losing again, is just how good this Celtics team is. I'm not so sure anyone can beat them. Their defense is absolutely stifling, their ball movement is great, and for all the nonsense talk about Rondo being the weak-link, he's actually one of the stars on that team. Celtics have a lot of options on the bench, they have 3 all stars and it's going to be difficult for ANY team to stop all 3 or contain them. They have great 3 point shooting.
They're basically the Spurs of previous times...

That stat is just ridiculously pathetic. Combine that with the fact that we're getting nothing from the bench, and you've got what you've got.
On a more ominous note, Mr. Duncan looks truly disinterested/apathetic.........

I don't get why some Spurs fans get upset when other Spurs fans get pissed at the Spurs losing. This is a forum, what do you expect people to post after the Spurs lose 4 straight in March and drop to the 7th seed? Oh it's ok, Spurs'll be back next year, it's still good to be a Spurs fan, etc. etc? You gotta expect them to vent a little.

I do agree that Udoka is a variable at the 2,3 spot, that we didn't have before but all he needs to do is just play smarter come playoff time. Hopefully he has it. If not, let's hope Barry replaces him and Bowen can play the amount of time he played last post-season.

I thought it was pretty ballsy of him to say that at the beginning of the game but didn't think much about his comment. It's the frickin' first quarter against the best team in the league, you don't say they're going to win with 36 minutes left!
:bang seriously, the guy should know better. The basketball gods made us paywith that potential And-1 that spun around forever then rolled out, at the end for Manu? That would have made all the difference between an overtime game and a loss, since we had a time out.

Actually you're right. But what I don't like is people coming on here and chastising certain players because they've missed a few shots. And then there are those who write the team off completely because they've hit a slump. Udoka, Horry and Fin are on this team for a reason. And that's to fill their respective rolls by supporting the big three. During the playoffs when these and other players are contributing as they should some of the comments on here will sound very stupid.

Give the game ball to the 98 year old Sam Cassell, and look forward to seeing another former Rocket collect another championship trophy this year.
Celts played with a grit, determination and sense of team that used to belong to the Spurs. You gotta admire the way their role players hit huge shots tonite, and the way the Celts seem to enjoy playing with each other.

I heard it too, but let's get real. It's not Sean's fault. His comment had nothing to do with why the Spurs lost this game. The Spurs simply didn't maintain their superior level of play and their intensity through the 2nd half. Also, the Celtics had a lot to do the the way the Spurs were dismantled in the 2nd half.

Well, though I'm not yet ready to write off the Spurs completely (though they are making it very hard not to :madrun), I don't think for a second that Horry and Finley and Udoka are going to come through for us in the playoffs this season as in the past. I hope I'm wrong, but this "slump" that Finley and Horry especially are in is reaching record levels and it's not like it's been just for a few games. I don't mind them missing shots, it's their defense, lack of aggression that's hurting me. Finley isn't doing ANYTHING for this team and Pop is starting him again. :pctoss

But, you've got realize that eventually the odds will be against us that guys like Finley, Horry and Vaughn will show up or play well. Whatever happens the remainder of this season, the Spurs can't rely on so many older players, because it's catching up to them.

Now what?
First and foremost, Pop has got to settle on a line-up and a rotation. Period. Moving Finley and Oberto and Manu and Kurt in and out of the starting line up is getting very old. I told people a couple of months ago- it is 2006 all over again.
Second, the team needs to remember that Duncan- and Duncan alone is the Superstar. Not Manu and not Tony going one and one and trying to be the big cheese.
Third, sharing the ball on offense and trusting each other on defense are the things that seem to me to be most obviously lacking, and that really tells me even more about the true chemistry of this team.

I'm fair-weather because I respected the hell out of the opponent tonight? I saw a potential 2008 championship tonight, it just wasn't the home team.
Whether they'll turn into a championship team for this year in the coming months remains to be soon. As the championship is decided in June and not March.
