Webber misses game for short-handed Kings with sore knee

January 11, 2005
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Chris Webber missed Sacramento's game against Denver on Tuesday night with a sore left knee, leaving the Kings with just nine players in uniform.

Webber missed his third game of the season with soreness in his knee, which still hasn't fully recovered from microfracture surgery after the 2003 playoffs. Webber, who missed all but 24 games of last season following the surgery, was scratched from Tuesday's lineup moments before game time.

Webber, a five-time All-Star, leads the Kings this season with 20.9 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, along with 4.9 assists.

Sacramento also faced the Nuggets without guard Cuttino Mobley and forward Michael Bradley, who hadn't arrived in town after Monday's trade with Orlando for Doug Christie. Maurice Evans took Christie's spot in the starting lineup, and Darius Songaila replaced Webber.

Webber, one of Christie's closest friends on the Kings, declined comment on the trade before the game.
