Boston, San Antonio not must wins for Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks' loss to the Los Angeles Lakers earlier this week did nothing to inspire confidence. It seemed to harden the view among many media and fans that if the Mavericks don't come back to beat Boston and San Antonio over the next four days, it is proof positive that they won't make any noise in the playoffs.

The importance of winning these next two games can't be minimized. But let me ask you this? What if the Mavericks beat the Celtics and Spurs yet lose at Denver and Golden State later this month? What if the team loses to the Lakers, Phoenix, Utah and New Orleans next month?

The Mavericks need success over the next four days to build momentum and soothe their psyche. But if they win these two games and lose those big ones later on, it will have meant nothing.

Time is running out for this team to prove it's playoff ready. But if it fails this week, there will be other chances.

I agree completely with this. These are good tests to show what else they really need improvement in, but ultimately, they need to finish the final games strong. If they beat the hell out of these teams and lose their final 3 or 4 games, then i will be very concerned. but if they lose these, but win convincingly against those other 4 teams (LA, Pho, Utah, NO), I will feel pretty good about the post-season. But winning these two would be very good for their confidence (as well as some of the fans confidence)

Nothing is a must-win anymore for Dallas really. This team won't prove anything to anybody until the playoffs, and nobody can have any real solid, results-based confidence in this team until they shock us all and win a playoff series.

Tonight vs the Celtics is a must win for the Mavs just for the sake of their own sanity. Their 0-6 record against .500 teams is weighing heavily over their shoulders. If they can beat the best +.500 team out there, all will be well in Dallas. If they lose, I fear the Mavs are truly done this year.

I can feel a solid Mavs win tonight...or maybe it's just gas I'm feeling. :)

You can tell early in the game if the Mavs are going to lose this one.

Just look to the bench to see how much overcoaching Avery is doing. If he's flailing his arms and yelling on EVERY PLAY, the Mavs are going to lose.

precisely. I really feel that the Mavs could pull this one out of their asses. If everyone comes to the game with the mindset that this is a winable game, plus they are at home right? So who wants another disappointing loss at home? I would love it if they come out game-tight, ready to whoop some Celt ass but I doubt they show the killer instinct. I'd love to see Josh/Jas get it going and finally click together. Josh needs to go back to the slash n drive mentality and maybe they will finally link once he gets back to his old self. Dirk better step up. It's be a blessing is Stack and JET came to play and not fumble the ball around. I'd like to see Lue back up Kidd and get the offense rolling like he did in the last game.

But the CELTS have decent defense I hear, it might be an uphill battle.
WHAT WE CANNOT DO - IS LET THE RAININ 3 PARADE COME TO TOWN. So I pray that the Mavs step up their 3 pt defense. I'd rather them beat us away from the 3 pt line than to juss hit whatever 3 they decide to throw! :dramaquee but i'm not coach. I'd hate to see AJ screamin or even HEAR him screamin across the court! I absolutely think it makes him look so childish to be ranting and ravin his arms and kickin and screamin and juss lookin like a poutin child on the sidelines.

Wow... thass magic! I wanna learn that trick! :p:

It's pretty simple. If somebody hasn't made it to the game by halftime, they're not coming. When halftime arrives, I wait for the crosstraffic of people going to the concessions and bathroom to avoid getting accosted by the ushers. Then you find a seat that still has those placards on top of them.

Well, the best thing to do is before the season when tickets go on sale, buy directly from the Mavs -- the cheapest seats are two bucks a pop. After that, you're at the mercy of stubhub , ebay and craigslist.

It just depends. I paid $15 on stubhub for a seat in the centercourt sections for the Knicks and Kings. For the Celtics, it was $50. I would go to the scalpers tonight -- the closer it is to tipoff, the more pressure to unload. If you go to stubhub or ebay today, you're gonna get raped.

Pretty impressive run for the C's - beating the Spurs in a close game, blowing out the Rockets, beating the Mavs in a close game.

All in all, I'd say the theory that the Spurs are best poised to beat the C's was confirmed by this run. Makes me feel a little less nervous about the loss. I mean, a loss is a loss but it could have just as easily gone the other way, and in a 7 game series the best team always has an opportunity to make up for a close game or a missed opportunity/bad call.

IIRC, Dallas has not beaten a team with a winning record since the trade.

:lmao

Mark Cuban will be dancing with stars tonight

P.S sorry but Kaka is no longer the best footballer in the word. It's C. Ronaldo.

Go Utah!!! LA is too good I need them to lose!
It'll help our 1st seed chances if Utah takes them out since LA doesn't have much more competitive games left.

What stands out to me is the Spurs gave the game away to Boston and so did Dallas. We did it in the 3rd, Dallas in the 4th.

Boston doesn't get called for fouls in either game.

Stop listening to that insane homer Sean Elliot and making excuses, your team choked a 22 point lead and lost to the better team. Simple as that.

Celtics will get the sweetheart calls in the playoffs, book it.
But they are playing very well at the moment and deserved to win every game of their Texas sweep.

That Ray Allen shot was damn clutch

Dirk believed too much that he would get foul, he made his lay up shot difficult all by himself.

isnt it nice when your coach knows how to have plays that actually work in the clutch to get ur best players open in spots the succeed. Avery likes to keep 4 guys on the perimeter that watch dirk try to go iso for the 3pt line, just sickeneing

Celts swept their Texas three-step. Stopped the Rockets string @HOU blowout and crunch time superiority @Spurs and @Mavs. Very impressive.

Celts are obviously in a league of their own right now.

Should make for very interesting playoffs, with the traffic jam/balance in the West and Celts needing to prove they can continue the season success in the playoffs.

you're right too many isos,

Boston had so many screens for Ray Allen, they were three steps ahead of the Mavs, just so well executed. Dallas is clueless in crunchtime. Dirk practically was throwing up forced shots hoping to get bailed out.

It's kind of similar to how our team operates in the clutch at times, give it to Timmy or Manu and hope they create
