Think the Rangers will make any moves before the trade deadline? We need another quality SP. I heard the Padres are shopping Wolf and Maddux.
I don't want to see Maddux...not only will he be switching leagues, but he'll be going into TBPIA...that's a disaster waiting to happen. He will get tatooed. And Wolf wasn't all that even when he was in a pitching stadium.
The only guy I would consider trading for is someone who is proven to be able to pitch in that park..and unforunately, there's really only one guy you know can do that and that's Kenny Rogers...and even if Detroit would give him up...I wouldn't be willing to give up much to get him.
Basically we aren't going to get an ace by trade and that's really the only thing that will help the Rangers...

Feldman looked great tonight, Vasquez got bit by some errors and one pitch to Baseball Jesus.
Great view at U.S. Cellular for $19. I'll post some of my pics from the park later (I got Hamilton and Quentin's homer swings, but don't know how good they came out from left center).

Lance Armstrong and Elizabeth Edwards were on hand as they were filming a segment for a cancer telethon scheduled for early September. We did a couple of takes so they could film the stadium's crowd.

Why does Ron Washington continue to bat Marlon Byrd #5 in the lineup? He gives Milton absolutely no protection. Not to mention Byrd is on of the worst run producers on the team

protection for the rookies. Throw Chris Davis in the 5 spot and he's probably batting .150 with zero homers this season.
I'd rather not see Byrd there (i'd rather not see him in the lineup ever) but I'd also rather see the kids take their swings at the back of the order.

They're still a year away at least. The rotation just isn't good enough to go on the kind of streak the Rangers would need to go on to catch up to the leading wild card teams. Unless the Rays/Yanks/Twins/others all crash and burn. Not likely.
They are fun as hell to watch though with all of the 11-10 wins and 10-8 losses.

Holy Shit! Just got this email from the Newberg Report:
According to MLB.com and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Rangers have just
fired pitching coach Mark Connor and bullpen coach Dom Chiti.
The new pitching coach is Andy Hawkins (who had been in that role with
Oklahoma) and the new bullpen coach is Jim Colborn (who was the
organization's Pacific Rim scout and is a former big league pitching coach).

I have serious doubts about Padilla or Millwood doing anything worth a shit. That's the obvious weakness for this team, their ace and #2 wouldn't even make the rotation of some teams in the league.
I was 50% right. Millwood is indeed a bum, but I was just flat out wrong about Padilla. The guy has a lot more heart than I gave him credit for at the beginning of the season.
He showed a hell of a lot against the Yankees tonight rearing back to throw 96 mph and get out of a jam with his 100 to 110th pitches.

Rangers just announced that they are moving Blalock to 1B when he returns and Chris Davis is going to 3B..guess this is a good move considering Justin Smoak is a 1B and it gets Davis acculamated back at 3B

Rangers' offense needs to take about a week off and intentionally slump just to get the pitching to work harder

Maybe Josh Hamilton can prove he's The Natural and pitch a game or two. He can't do any worse than the shit we're getting right now.

I would love to see that.
Some managers have been known to do stuff like that in the past when they're getting absolutely nothing from their pitching staff...just throw Hamilton out there for a few innings late in a game.

Yeah so he can tear a ligament in his arm, be done until next may, and never swing right ever again. That worked great for Canseco.

Since I'm probably the only Reds fan on this board, I will take firebat's bet. If Volquez finishes with an ERA above 4 I'll put a Rangers Logo in my sig. If he is below you put a Reds' Logo.
I'm taking this bet knowing that Volquez pitches in Great American Ballpark (a better hitters park than The Ballpark) and probably will lose me the bet. BUT damn it I love the kid right now.
Deal dude, we'll really see what Eddy con Queso is made of when he gets his second go at some of these teams.
ERA W-L SO WHIP
2.80 15-5 155 1.31
Yeah, he's the real deal. He's tailed off a little bit since he's way past his career high in innings pitched. He is probably gonna be shut down as soon as rosters expand in Sept. So whenever you want to put that Reds' Logo in your sig you can.

Does have some promising info in the article though....

meh.....Hicks is the worst owner in pro sports. He has no philosophy besides "make money". He cites Tampa Bay as the model of success, which is probably the dumbest thing ever uttered on earth, as they were the worst franchise in pro sports history until this year. He's interested in nothing but profit, which is why he's selling "the future" so hard right now....not because he actually believes it will work, but because he needs to give fans a reason to show up to keep his pockets full.
Fortunately the president & GM of the team are doing good enough jobs that it offsets the stupidity of the owner. Nolan is going to whip the pitchers into shape, and JD & Wash needed a couple years of job training but I have full confidence in their abilities.
I fully expect this team to develop into a contender with the incredible young talent that Jon Daniels has assembled, but after that, it's up to Hicks to pony up the cash to keep those guys in town. We'll see how they handle Milton Bradley and then Josh Hamilton....if J-Ham winds up playing for the Yankees in a couple years, then we can just give up on the Rangers ever winning until Hicks sells the team.

Something tells me Milton Bradley isn't returning unless he will take a one-year deal. The OF is fairly crowded and the DH position might be too, depending on which catchers they might trade this offseason. I just don't see the Rangers giving him multi-years, which is what he wants.
Nolan says he expects Wash and JD to be back, which warms my heart. There is a lot of grumbling in the press about firing them both. I would not cry over Wash, although I think it would be unfair, seeing as how he has done his best with the hand he was dealt. But to fire JD now, after he has built the best farm system in baseball and and flipped one-year contracts for viable players would be disasterous and send this team into the same bullshit spiral it always goes on when people lose patience, rather than to stay on the improving trajectory that it is currently on.
And though I am no fan of Hicks, I think he will pony up for the right player like Hambone. He made a sizable offer to Tex, he just didn't want to stay. Speaking of which, gawd I hope he goes to the NL or another team, please don't re-sign with the Angels, I don't want to see him every time they play the Rangers.
