Cool find. I'm pretty sure I must have seen that when first shown, but I don't remember it.

The real sh!t was when th NBA was on ABC back in the 70s and during halftimes they would show a 1-on-1 competition they were running.

Not a problem. I simply did a search on youtube for "George Gervin". I found all sorts of video clips of him. the HORSE game was the one that caught my eye.

I've seen that before, the one where he also beats Kevin Greevey. I will say Ice looks like he's just had some booger sugar.

Those are some skinny ass mofos. Would they get trampled in today's game? Who knows.

I think Dirk could beat them too. He would just drill 3's all day with his right or left. Sheed isn't the only NBA player who can shoot with both hands. He'd beat Ice for sure, all he was doing was shooting jumpers. That form was pretty.........un-textbook it annoys me when the elbow is sticking out so.

But this is a game of horse and Ice/Pistol had some incredible moves. Very unorthodox to say the least. Both Pistol and Ice would kill Dirk IMO. But I haven't seen Dirk shoot those types of shots shown in the "horse" competition. Maybe he could but those two guys were phenomenal. Would be fun to see today's players compete in a competition like that just to get a feel for how the different generations stack up.

Ice had no incredible moves, only jumpshots, the hardest one was a banker from top of the key. Pistol Petes toughest move was his 1st behind the back trick.

I think I share a birthday with Pistol.

Um..I would love to see where you got the indication that Dirk could shoot left handed 3's from?

Bird is a better shooter than both Dirk 10 folds!
I don't have any proof, but it's not absurd to say a shooter like Dirk Nowitizki can shoot with his off hand, I'm sure many pro-players can shoot with their off hands, I mean I can make 2/10 with my left hand. Where did Larry Bird come from?

Ice had no moves! ???

Did you ever watch him play? He had a quick first step. He could dunk as well as anyone (especially in his ABA days). He went under the backboard, finger rolled, bank shots from impossible angles, under the backboard flip shots behind his head, etc........

I'm well aware of that, but the way he plays horse I could beat him. He should have tried harder.

Yeah, Ice was better in traffic vs. a defense.....not playing HORSE!

Probably the best HORSE players are stationary jump shooters.

They should bring this back and replace the skills competition.

Kobe VS Lebron
Bdavis vs Arenas
etc..
Gino vs Stackhouse :)

Too much of a risk of someone getting injured...

They used to have a one on one oldtimers game at the AS weekend and they even stopped doing that because guys got injured.

Cool footage but pretty weak shots by both players. Underhand from five feet away? What is this, fourth grade?

What I was thinking. Guys looked like that hadn't ate in months....Can you imagine them going up against Shaq, Stoudamire, Artest with those skinny little frames?

Thank you so much for posting.
This is one of the best things I ever seen on YouTube.
I love this classic stuff. Never heard of a Horse competition on NBA/NCAA level. Thanks for introducing me. AWSOME!!!

That had to be from the very early days of Gervin on the Spurs.

Two things of interest:
1. He was a very good jumpshooter when he came in the league. Putting a couple of letters on Pistol Pete with jumpshots ain't bad shooting

2. Interesting that two of the shots he missed were sorta like the underhand scoop or finger roll that he made the most famous part of his repertoire.
