With less than a month to go before the San Antonio Spurs head into the 2008 NBA Playoffs, it’s time to reflect back and also look forward. Over the course of the last five years, this forum has seen its share of history.

As a group, we’ve been able to chronicle the happenings of every aspect of the Spurs on a 24/7/365 basis. Whether it was an emotional midseason trade (http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11154), a summer league game ( http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20697) or a championship celebration ( http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71738), if it involved the Spurs, our SpursTalk.com community was involved. Although I may be a little bit biased, I truthfully think that SpursTalk.com has been the world’s best source for Spurs information and discussion over the last five years.

While LJ and I may get recognition, I believe it is unwarranted. The true power behind SpursTalk.com is you. You – whether you are an avid poster or just an occasional lurker – are what makes this community what it is today. Sometimes I may be irritated by a post here or a remark there, but overall this community is simply awesome. From the Basketball News Forum ( http://spurstalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=3) to the Political Forum ( http://spurstalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=8) to the Troll Forum ( http://spurstalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=21), everyday brings new reasons to laugh, to reasons to think and new reasons to argue.

I'd like to especially thank all of those who have been with us from the beginning ( http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2774). There are too many people to begin naming but know that everything you do and have done is appreciated. In an odd way, SpursTalk.com has become a family. It sounds crazy and it can't be explained, however if you stick around long enough you will eventually feel the same.

Perhaps it's because we've gone through incredible highs and incredible lows together throughout the years. We've witnessed the 2003 championship together ( http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2772). We survived the .4 tragedy (http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2648). We celebrated championship number three (http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20081) in 2005. We held our chins up (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42272) after losing in 2006. Last season, we watched the Spurs win their fourth championship (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=71201).

Now here we are. 2008. This team has four championships. Tim Duncan and Gregg Popovich could retire tomorrow and they’d be hailed as all-time greats. San Antonio will always remember and cherish their four NBA titles.

But I’m not satisfied. As Spurs fans, we shouldn’t be satisfied. There is more winning to be had. Championship number five is out there to be won and I believe that this group can get it done. Will it be easy? No. In fact, this may be the most difficult road the Spurs have ever traversed. Will it be worth it? Hell yes.

It’s time for all Spurs fans to unite as one and help their team get this done. Whether you are a season ticket holder who needs to yell just a little bit louder. Do what you gotta do. Whether you are an international fan who needs to stay up further into the night to follow the game updates over the internet by refreshing the boxscore. Do what you gotta do. Whether you are a fan who religiously sits by your radio while making sure all your game day superstitions are situated perfectly. Do what you gotta do. We need all Spurs fans, young and old, Argentinean and French, old schoolers and new schoolers, to unite to help the Spurs get number five.

Five will happen in 2008. The Spurs will get it done riding the backs of the chosen five: Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, Bruce Bowen and Gregg Popovich. In less than a month, these five men will take a look at what appears to be an unscalable mountain. They’ll begin their journey, and while it won’t always be a smooth trip, when it’s all said and done, the chosen five will reach the mountaintop and five will ours.

Best post ever. Seriously.

My favorite ST related moment was the 2003 WCF at Maggie's (RIP :( ) when the Spurs were down 10 to the Mavs and I said "if they get to 12, it's over" Dallas hit a 3 so I thought SA was done. Timvp looks over at me and said "Nahh, they got this" Now I didn't he believed that or was just trying to pump us up but right after that, Steve Kerr started going off and the rest is history.

Kori and LJ have opened their home to us on many occasions, fed us great food and provided us a place to gather and talk all things Spurs. I know I speak for a lot of SpursTalk residents when I say we love it here and we love you two for making it all possible.

Wonderful post.
I'm glad you're back.

I got some grief here a little while ago for saying I felt a connection to ST.
It's nice to know that you feel it too.
ST is a family. The regulars know that.
I agree that it takes all of us to create and maintain that feeling, but you (and LJ) are the ones that set the tone. You are the one that lets it happen. You are the one that gave us a place to connect.

It's wonderful to have ST to go through the ups and downs of being a Spurs fan with.
It's wonderful to have ST to go through the ups and downs of everyday life with.

I don't know what I'd do without ST.

If there was ever a time to BELIEVE in 5, it's now.

And knock that modesty bullshit off Kori. Lord knows that the power that you wield, if it were in the hands of lesser mortals, could have been abused and turned this place into a board devoted to your ego more than the Spurs. And you do this pro bono! WTF are you thinking? I wouldn't have blamed you for a second if you had cashed out when you had the chance. (http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35453&highlight=union)

The thing you definitely nailed is how this place can turn into a sort of family. Obviously this place has made a believer out of me.

:p:

I knew Kori will wait to post this five fives and bring on right time. I was wondering if it will be after the regular season or after the finals:)
But she knew she is needed here, so she did what she had to do.

Talking about numbers. Kories post was sended at 12:56 my time
1+2+5+6=14
1+4= 5

I was at the begining of the ST and I'm glad to be here.
But most of us are fucked up, being here everyday is insaine.
But the spurs need insaine fans more then everything.

Cheers, and remember about national minority, and their typos and gramar failures ;)

What a great post! So many absolutely true observations about this place. I've met virtually nobody here, yet I feel that I know so many of you and that some of you know me through the shared experiences this forum allows. It's so true that many of my greatest memories as a Spurs fan will always be filtered through the prism of having gone through those things with all of the great posters here. The highest of highs, the lowest of lows, the most mundane of mundanes. For the last 5 years or so (I was a little late coming to the party and can't truly claim to have been part of the rebellion until having been invited to join the real rogues) everything Spurs has had a connection to this site. It's truly a credit to Kori and LJ and to everyone else who makes this place go.

My father just died when I was just a newcomer in this forum. I was there, it took me a long time to forget the way he looked when that happened. Worse thing was it was on Christmas day:santahat.

I am telling this story because this site became my sanctuary since then. Basketball is one of my favorite sports and my family, as well. This site keeps me alive. And I love the San Antonio Spurs team-win or loss. I cannot be here 24/7 but I make it a point to follow each game as regularly as I can.

Plus I love those crazy posts and Spurs fans' meltdown after each loss, makes me laugh:lol.
I wish this site will last forever.

Long live Spurstalk!

As the Spurs head into the Staples Center to face the Kobe-led Los Angeles Lakers, one of the chosen five may be sitting on the sidelines in suit. However, that does not mean that the mission changes or the goal is insurmountable. It just means that the remaining cogs in the Spurs Machine need to kick it up a notch.

Finally 555 posts after more than 5 (????) years of being here! I don't claim to be an NBA historian but this is probably one of the most difficult roads to the trophy that any team has ever faced, with every series being a potential best of 7.

Never winning back to back titles despite being in a great position to do so was tough; 0.4 in 2004 and Dirkand1 in 2006 will forever leave a bitter taste in my mouth. Nevertheless, witnessing the spirit of the Spurs against a great Suns team has left me a Believer.

2008 is the year that will forever redeem the SPAM legion!

:lobt2: :lobt2: :lobt2: :lobt2: :lobt2:

I've spent so much time on this board I can't even remember the exact period I joined. It seems to me it was somewhere around 2000, but the 03-06-2003 date tied to the "Formal Introduction" thread belies this. I came here ages ago, forsaking Spurs Central/Report/EzBoard because this was the place for fresher than fresh behind-the-scenes news and knowledgeable NBA talk. It is a testament to Kori and TimVP that SpursTalk has not deviated from this charter since it's creation.

I bemoan the drop in frequency of posts from the 'older' posters like Ghost, Marcus, and Rick Von Braun, but people come and go. Nonetheless, I dare say SpursTalk is even better now with people like Bruno. Having insiders like QueGee is the cherry on the cake!

Kori & TimVP - many thanks for hosting the best online community I've ever been a part of. You deserve major props especially when one considers that you haven't been making $$$ off this site. It takes commitment and die-hard good-will to keep SpursTalk running for so many years with minimal downtime AND keeping this a nice place despite all the trolls, retarded posters, and huge bandwidth-sucking banners!

On the subject of trolls and quick-trigger newbies: the ratio of noise to quality posts has gone up ever since you guys joined massively circa 2006. Your useless posts are making SpursTalk harder to appreciate these days, but thankfully, this forum has such a high throughput that useless threads are pushed to page 2 very quickly. I plead with you to read more and post less. It will make the job of the :married: much easier... as well as the amount of $$$ they inject into this site.

Over the years, I've seen Avery replaced by Parker, Bruce taking over Sean's mantle, hoped that Derek A. would help bring another championship :bang, witnessed Manu's emergence, lamented the departure of Malik - so many studs and duds came and went. The 2003 team is still my favourite though - I leave you with this great article on that team: Spurs transform unknowns into known quantities (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2003/story?id=1567943).

On losing to the Spurs in the playoffs again - “It seems like every time we get to the playoffs we play the Spurs, and they beat us every time. They’re well-coached…they’ve got solid players…they understand what it takes to win. They were the better team

That’s why they are the champs. That’s the difference between the two teams. I think on paper we have more talent than they do, but they’re experienced. Their commitment and understanding of what they want to do is greater than ours. Their ability to play together and make small plays at both ends of the floor and do the little things is unsurpassed. That’s why I think a team like them has won as many championships as they have.

Somehow this just seemed like the appropriate thread for post # 5000.

:toast to the fight for 5, to the Spurstalk family, and to me...because I'm awesome like that.

You always sit back during the playoffs, and you see what a team has to do to win a championship, and you just say, its unreal. You have to beat 4 different teams, 4 times.

I mean its just UNREAL how tough it is!

Time for the Spurs (and their fans) to dig deep.

Championships aren't supposed to be easy and the Hornets are damn good. If the Spurs stay aggressive and focused - keep pounding the rock, they have a good shot.

Elimination games can be fun ;) I'm looking forward to Thursday.

Can't break a rock with a small hammer...and game seven is over there not in AT&T. It would be win of epic proportions if they can pull it off. Keep the malox handy.
