Let's also root for Maggette to light us up and impress Cuban in person.

Mavs win 95-87, with Brandon Bass scoring all 95 points. Book it.

you guys can still make the playoffs and you can upset some higher seeded teams without experience.
If Dirk is back, your season ain't done yet.

also, watching us struggle against the fearsome lineup of fazekas, smush, josh powell, cuttino and tim thomas, we're gonna get smashed against Denver and Golden State.

Findog, no disrespect but I'm watching the game on the Clipper channel and that trade with NJ really looks bad now because of Kidd's shooting. Yeah he made a couple tonight but most of his misses are way left or way right. Maybe JK needs contacts.

Just admit mavs fans the Jason Kidd trade is horrible.

On the plus side, Dirk has been Dirk again with Kidd. And if you look at our efficiency ratings, our defense has actually improved, while our offense has slightly suffered. Per 100 possessions, our point differential is down like a point.

There's no benefit in having Kidd if you don't run and push the ball in transition. There's no benefit in having Kidd if you don't surround him with guys that can run the floor. He's never been a good shooter, but that hasn't prevented him from being a good PG. I was against the trade because I felt our core was not worth fucking with in the middle of the season. They've just done it real half-ass, this roster is not a good fit for Kidd. I just hope they can retool this thing next year in a way that brings out the best in Kidd.

He has a $21 million expiring deal for next year. A contender might want him in February, or we might need to look at FA PGs for 09/10.

I have no problem with trying to mix it up but we did it the wrong way, we should have changed our offense to one with more movement and running. We should have got a back up point guard that's a playmaker and we should have tried to trade or sign a reasonable Sg. But instead we did this...

Kidd has never been a good shooter, pretty horrid the last couple of years, I don't know why this continues to surprise people.
The Mavs look pretty pathetic though so far against the Clippers. Maybe this is a good thing for Mav fans, you know the roster will be upturned the offseason.

Cutting Fazekas to make room for Magloire looks brilliant, as did cutting Mbenga to bring in Juwan Howard.

You may be correct, I really don't know because I haven't watched enough of the mavs but the games I have seen he has been a terrible shooter. If it were my team, I think I would have rather kept Harris and made a move for a low post player, but that's just my opinion.

The mavs are somehow becoming a bigger joke than the 20 win mavs of the 1990's, if that's possible. I could take the 20 win seasons because there was no hope but what I can't take is a 3rd straight year of this bs underachieving. The entire mavs team should just be castrated and banned from the league.

Well, I'm not Donnie Nelson. I wanted to be wrong for the sake of my team and talked myself into it. This team is going nowhere. Hopefully they can do some roster overhaul in the offseason to get this thing turned around.

I like Antoine Wright. That guy deserves more burn. Of course, given the precedent that was established by bringing in Juwan and Magloire over Mbenga and Fazekas, expect Antoine to stay behind Eddie Jones and Devean George on the depth chart.

Maybe Stern could have them castrated in front of a live audience for better ratings. It's not like any Mav players need or use them anyway.

Wanna know why Nash was a mere All Star with us and a franchise player in Phoenix? Wanna know why Kidd was an All Star with the Nets and a journeyman point with us?

You push the ball in the open court with athletes that can run with you and you get easy layups and dunks in transition. You push the ball in the open court with a bunch of spares, you get turnovers, botched fast breaks, and spot up jumpers that brick.

Findog
03-25-2008, 08:29 PM
From what I can see, only Josh, Jet, Dirk and Antoine Wright can really run with Kidd.

Yep, whether it's business, the Mavericks, or Dancing with the Stars, he doesn't like to lose. Of course, we're way over the cap, so our options are pretty limited with some of the bad contracts we have even if Cuban wants to burn through money. Who wants Stack or Terry's contract?

There's also the double-edged sword with Cuban in that he has a lot of enemies and not a lot of opposing GMs want to do us any favors.

It's amazing to me how Erica Dampier is actually a decent C with Kidd. On the flip side, Josh Howard has really sucked it up since the trade. That's also why it isn't translating into wins

mavs>spurs2
03-25-2008, 08:49 PM
Because Josh is the type of player that needs to create his own shot or get shots on the break. The mavs dont run much and with kidd we dont run as many isolations. Cuts and set plays aren't exactly where josh gets his points.

If the Mavs can somehow improbably sweep their road trip, does that make the playoffs extremely likely then? They'd get a game up on both Denver and Golden State, and they'd clinch tiebreakers over both of them as well.

as weird as it sounds...I think the focal point of the offense should run in this order:

damp
howard
terry
stack
kidd
scrub 1
scrub 2
and so on

I think the Dirk injury may help. The offense doesn't work with Kidd. He is not good in the halfcourt set because teams will get away with doubling and leaving him open jumpers.

The injury may force Avery to adjust the offense and help Kidd.

we are going to get slaughtered in these upcoming games.
