T.J. Ford was back among family, friends and more than a few University of Texas fans Wednesday night.

The only thing missing was his uniform.

Ford, who watched from the sideline as his Milwaukee Bucks played the Spurs, has not played since bruising his spinal cord when he fell during a game almost a year ago.

Ford underwent surgery in May. He visited his surgeon in Los Angeles on Monday and should learn within the next couple of days whether he will be cleared to play this season.

"You have to prepare yourself for the good and the bad," Ford said. "But I will play again. It's just a matter of when."

Ford refuses to believe his injury could be career-ending. But he did wonder about his future when he was carried off on a stretcher in the Feb. 24, 2004, game.

"I think those sorts of things would run through anybody's mind when something like that happens," Ford said. "It has been difficult. You have your ups and downs, but you stay positive."

Lights out: The game was delayed for about five minutes when a computer glitch caused most of the arena's overhead lights to shut down after the player introductions. The lights, which usually are only shuttered during the intro, take between 20 and 30 minutes to power on.

Rather that wait that long, the teams agreed to begin the game in the shadows.
