Okay, I was looking at the Rockets schedule this year (here (http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/HOU/2008_games.html)), and noticed a team called the "Knickerbockers". At first, I burst out laughing and was like "WTF, who is this!?", then I realized it was the Knicks and was their actual name. I thought the website was making fun of them at first. Learn something new everyday.

They go right along with that team from Arizona's real name. The Phoenix Sans Balls.

Knickerbocker was a name given to the descendants of the Dutch settlers of New york, originally derived from Diedrich Knickerbocker, the 19th century Dutch author who wrote "The History of New York".
The literal meaning of the word is "Toy marble-baker".
