The race in the West is so tight right now, that any loss of the top 8 teams is thread-worthy. Especially if it comes at the expense of a 'lesser' team.
I'm sure we'll have a thread the next time it happens to any of the aforementioned teams.

DazedAndConfused
03-26-2008, 10:52 PM
So what, the Spurs have yet to face any real competition in their 5 game win streak. This is no different than the 11 game win streak they had before. When they start playing good teams again they will lose, the switch is not flipped.

And no beating a Dirk-less Mavs and Hedo/Nelson-less Magic team is not an impressive victory.

That's ok. I'm sure the Spurs are not playing to impress you. For all the talking you do, our teams basically have the same record. So, I gather you are not impressed with the Lakers either?

Last I checked half our fucking team is injured. Your team is fully healthy as far as your starters go. We are missing all 3 of our centers and our best perimeter defender. Not too mention Kobe's pinky is injured. Yet despite all of this we beat DAL, UTA, and GSW on the road. What the fuck have you done lately? Lose to the Nuggets, 76ers, Suns, Allen-less Celtics.....all with your team fully healthy.

We actually beat UTAH and DAL with Duncan injured. We had injuries to all 3 of our best players. Including playing games without TP and TD.
So don't give me the injured BS. You live telling us how great your team is, and all I hear are excuses.

If I took Tim Duncan, Oberto, Kurt Thomas, and Bruce Bowen off your team right now you guys would end up in the lottery by the end of the season. This is essentially what has happened to the Lakers (Duncan~Bynum, Gasol~Thomas, Mihm~Oberto, Ariza~Bowen).

I don't care what wins you had last year, the ball game is completely different at this point in the season and you know it.

ElNono
03-26-2008, 11:23 PM
As far as player importance, you can only compare Duncan to Kobe. If Kobe went down, I don't care if Bynum and the rest of the scrubs you mention are healthy or not, you are definitely on the Lottery.
And please, stop comparing Duncan and Bynum defensively, until Bynum makes the All Defensive team 5+ times. Same with Bowen-Ariza.
If you want people to take you seriously, stop comparing apples to oranges.

DazedAndConfused
03-26-2008, 11:26 PM
Bynum's stats defensively are just as good as Duncan's are this year. Defensively he is our anchor as Duncan is your anchor. If the Lakers were only missing Kobe they could still win games if they had Gasol, Bynum, and Odom.

How does Bynum playoffs numbers compare to Duncan's? And Gasol playoffs numbers? Tell you what, how do the combined Bynum and Gasol playoff numbers stack against Timmy's?

:lol @ your lack of respect for the Spurs. If we meet up in the playoffs you'll be suprised what a playoff-mode, battle tested, PHYSICAL team the Spurs become. Lakers have proven to have a nice regular season. Thats it. This Spurs team has proven that when it counts, in 4th Qtrs of playoff games, they get it done.

Just give it a rest man. And if you are comparing Ariza to Bowen you are a joke. Your best perimeter defender is the all defensive team member Kobe Bryant.
Chris Mihm would barely get any minutes with Gasol in the lineup anyways.

If the Spurs had half the injuries the Lakers have right now at this point in the season they wouldn't win a single game against an above .500 team.

The Spurs have suffered way more injuries than the Lakers this season and are still a top team in the West. I can't even imagine how far away ahead the Spurs would be had Parker, Ginobili, Duncan, and Barry had never gotten injured.

Bynum+Gasol > Duncan. That is what I said. Learn how to read you dumbshit.

And no, the Spurs had all their injuries happen at the exact same time LAST YEAR. They've been completely healthy for a while now and still managed to lose 4 straight games this year to quality competition. Don't give me this BS if the Spurs were healthy they would be way out in front. They are healthy right now and they can't beat good teams consistently. The Lakers have had the worst injury luck of any WC team by far. If they had Bynum and Gasol playing together for these past few months the race for the #1 spot wouldn't be close.

It will be sad if the deepest, strongest, most packed conference in Basketball and perhaps sports history is marred by key injuries to almost every elite team.

What teams are healthy in the West? The Spurs (sans Barry), the Hornets, and Jazz? That's it, right?

That said, a title would still feel great.

I distinctly remember having a conversation with a good friend of mine in early January this year. We both agreed that whatever team in the top 8 had the best overall health and lack of injuries would rise to the top of the conference. The seedings right now have more to do with health than overall talent. Anyone who thinks the #1 seed is better than the #2 or #3 is an idiot. It just means they have survived the injury bug better IMHO.

The Lakers are a dark horse right now. With Gasol's return date being pushed back even further to next Wed. at the earliest who knows how far they will fall. It's going to be one hell of a show to watch when the Lakers have their bigmen back though. If we fall to the #7 or #8 seed I can guarantee you nobody will want to face us (teams will tank to lose that #1 spot), that's an upset waiting to happen.
