Toros Finalize Trade With Iowa Energy

AUSTIN, TX (March 26) – The Austin Toros announced a trade today that sends guard Curtis Stinson to the Iowa Energy for forward Josh Gross.

Stinson (Iowa State) was acquired from the available player pool March 1st and in 15 games split between Austin and the Utah Flash averaged eight points and three rebounds this season.

Gross, a 6-5, 190 pound forward from UNC-Greensboro joins the Toros roster averaging 15 points and five rebounds. Gross started the 2007-08 season with the Albuquerque Thunderbirds before being traded to the Iowa Energy. Gross will join the Toros tonight for the first of a three game road trip in California. He will wear jersey number 17 when the Toros return to Austin next week.

I think the Toros are out of roster moves now, and they've ended up with a pretty balanced roster. Gross is a real athlete and more of a true 2-guard than Stinson, who becomes the fourth Iowa Energy player who had college experience in the state. The Toros were trying to trade Cheyne Gadson for him when Gross was a T-Bird, so they finally got their man.

Gross just hit a past-midcourt three at the end of the third to keep the Toros within striking distance of the D-Fenders 84-90.

Ian has 25 points and 10 rebounds. 2 fouls.

Are you able to get a steady video feed?

I set my media player to buffer about a minute of video, so it doesn't stop too often.

Ian looks good, as do Gross, Barrett and Bowen.

Not having seen Mahinmi since all-star game and not before that with the Toros, does he have a somewhat reliable mid-range shot?

He wasn't hitting the midrange shot the past two home games, and I haven't seen him take any tonight.

If the Spurs want to get a long SF project - or just a skinny PF - Brandon Wallace wouldn't be a bad choice. 14 points and 14 rebounds so far tonight.

DerMarr got a block and a steal on consecutive possessions to help put the game away.

Toros end up with four players with 20 or more points -- Ian, Barrett, Gross and Bowen.

Very good road win.

It was a really nice win. I've liked that Toros didn't gave up when they were down by 10 in the third quarter.
If Gross and Bowen continue to play like that, Williams' loss won't be too painful for Toros.
I find that D-Fenders playing at the Staples center really sucks. Playing in an empty arena is kinda depressive. It would be way better if they were playing in another arena.

The D-Fenders are going to move to their own new arena in Ontario, east of LA, next season.

Thanks for the info. It makes much more sense for them to play there.

The stat reporting is all messed up in RGV, but Desmon Farmer has 40 points for the Vipers so far tonight in a very high scoring game.
