As of now there's only one team in the East that's making the playoffs with a record below .500.

Is the East improving? lol

maybe a little, but considering Dallas/GS/Denver would all have very comfortable playoff positions right now still says something. All 3 of those teams could end the season with 50 wins and one of them still won't make it in the West.

There's 5 games between NOLA at #1 and Denver at #8 right now. Meanwhile, over in the East, there's 5.5 games between Boston at #1 and Detroit at #2. Crazy.

thats because the so called eastern conference contenders have so many bottom feeders to stomp on

Not a surprise at all... on the other hand Milwaukee not being out of the playoff race with 24 wins is surprising.

I think the issue is more complex than the East is inferior to the West. It has a lot to do with styles of play as much as anything.

Keep in mind, the only Western teams to win championships since 98 have played a very 'Eastern Conference' style of basketball... Even the Lakers were fantastic defensive teams.

i think the east have a very good chance to win the championship this year.

one, i think det is probably the best team in the nba right now. boston.. maybe 4th or 5th.

but the west is just gonna beat the hell outta themselves to get to the finals.

Evidenced by their records against the Western Conference...

Boston 25-5
Detroit 20-8 (2 more games against Minnesota)

They have 4 strong teams, with 3 that will win 50+. I think that is a major improvement over the last 5,6, 7 years. The ones above .500 are barely above it but hey, that's better than below it. The 8th seed, Atlanta, has a horrible record.

Most of the time, when someone brings up that the Eastern top teams get to play a whole bunch of crappy teams, it's not that Detroit and Boston wouldn't make it in the West. We've seen the two can beat quality Western teams. It's just noting that out of 82 games Boston and Detroit get to beat up on a lot more crappy teams than anyone in the West.

And it's as noteworthy as me pointing out that the Western Conference has four of the league's six worst teams, record wise. In other words, not very noteworthy.
