Thread: Official Duncan > Jordan thread

This is the requested thread where you argue that Duncan > Jordan.

I will start off the debate:

Duncan > Jordan because Duncan is a better rebounder and shotblocker. Jordan was also a guard, not tall enough to dominate like a big man. There was also a conspiracy by the NBA to have the refs give Jordan tons of gift calls.

There you have it!

Duncan > Jordan

Because he can also play baseball. There's my theory. If you add together the amount of sports they played, then if they were a dominant player in one of those professional leagues, then you square the total amount of sports they played. 2^2 = 4.

While not a center, Jordan still put up very good shot blocking and rebounding numbers, at one point he averaged 1.6 blocks, and at another averaged 8.0 rebounds.

The fact that Jordan did infact dominate like a big man while not being one is actually a plus, not a minus..

Also, you forgot that Duncan can swim...

You're dissappointed we don't believe your crazy ass theories?
Well according to my theory, there's an average of 14 threads in all of SpursTalk per day that interests a member, as taken by a study experimented over the past month. And for everyday that you post your crazy ass theories that result in about 4 threads, that is about 4 threads that people are dissappointed in. And to the average 20 threads made in the Spurs Forum, 20+14/2 = 17 damns given. And square the threads you make, which is 4, = 16. 17-16 = 1.
Which means 1 member actually gives a damn about your formulas.
Waste the rest of your life trying to figure out who it is. My guess is Louis.

All joking aside, it's my sincere opinion that Duncan > Jordan.

I say if you take off Jordan from the Bulls teams in the 90s, and plug in Duncan, you win 8 championships rather than 6.

I say if you take off Duncan from the Spurs and plug in Jordan, you win maybe 3 championships, rather than 4,

I say in the 1984 draft, Duncan goes # 1, Hakeem # 2, Bowie # 3, and Jordan # 4.

I say in the 1997 draft, Duncan goes # 1, Jordan goes # 2.

Basically, Jordan is overrated because he is a bigtime scorer. For the past 100 years, the highest scorers have always been overrated.

Duncan is underrated because he is not a bigtime scorer. Duncan, like no one else but Bill Russell, cares about winning, not scoring.

I would hope that Spurs fans agree with me on this.

You do realize that in 1985-86, Jordan only played 18 games because he got injured right? He didn't qualify for regular season awards. And, in 1994-95, he came back for the last 17 games of the season returning from his baseball experiment. Again, he didn't qualify for regular season awards. In the first 10 seasons where he would qualify for regular season awards, he was 1st team all NBA 9 times and led his teams to 5 NBA titles.

Russell 19 (13 years)
Duncan 18 (10 years)

Bird 17

Wilt 14
Havlicek 13
Karl Malone 13
Bob Pettit 13

Jerry West 12
Oscar Robertson 11
Hakeem 11

Do you realize that Duncan battled injuries in '04, '05, and '06?

Do you realize the Spurs probably would have won the NBA Titles in '04 and '06 had Duncan not been battling injuries? And Duncan would have likely been the Finals MVP?

Do you realize that Duncan was not 100% in '05, and the Spurs won anyway?

Do you realize Duncan lost his 1st team all-NBA slot in '06 because of injuries, and possible more MVPs?

Do you realize that when Jordan took that time off, he got lots of rest, rest that Duncan does not get?

Do you realize that Duncan stayed four years in college, missing one or two years of NBA play?

Do you realize that Duncan plays in the Western conference, which has been the much tougher than the east since Duncan entered the league?

The Spurs started 1998-1999, with a record of 6-8.

Would have? Exactly what type of psychic abilities do you have again?

Rodman was a more athletic Kurt Thomas type defender and would have done a great job against Duncan, with great defensive guards Jordan and Pippen being able to dig down and help him out. Same goes for Robinson, he would just be doubled and forced to kick it out to Eliott and Elie but with Jordan and Pippen being such great perimeter defenders they would be able to gamble a little and still recover to force bad shots. This series would be over in 5 games tops.

This series would be over in 5 games tops.

dude, Rodman is not tall enough to guard Duncan. He can shot his bank shot right over the top of him.

And the '99 Spurs had Robinson.

Did you even read my post?!? I mentioned Robinson you ass. And the 3 inches Rodman gives up are negated by his length and superior athleticism. You ever seen Kurt Thomas guard Duncan? He does the best job of probably anyone in the league, oh and he's a whole INCH taller than Rodman. Give me a break.

dude, Jordan stripped the ball from Ewing on a doubleteam, what does that prove? Ewing does not pass out of the doubleteamas well as Duncan.

And then Jordan faked a guy out and hit a jump shot. You are fixated on scoring average. Duncan is taller than Jordan. Duncan could just shoot a bank shot over the top of the defender, no need for some fancy juke-fake.

Duncan > Jordan

Duncan let Tony snag the last one.

.462 - .444 = .018

Your case rests on .018?

Do you realize that if the Spurs repeat, Duncan will have won 5 rings in 10 years? That's 50%.

Duncan is a better team player than Jordan. Did you actually watch the series last year? The Spurs had the ring locked up by halftime of game 2. They probably had it locked up far sooner. Duncan had 5 blocks in the first 17 minutes of game one. Cleveland was so demorilized, they never had a chance. Duncan did the same thing to the Knicks in the first half of game one in '99.

Doesn't mean Duncan is the better player. Maybe Manu or Tony shows up more than him.
