ditto, people need to understand that these mavs are in no way or shape the same mavs of 06

We can't afford to lose any game...have you seen the remaining schedule? It's clear that we will drop 2 or 3 places

Can't afford to "tank" a game in this conference. If Spurs had top seed locked, then why not? They would probably not be playing the big 3 anyway. Unfortunatly Spurs can't lose games on purpose.

Fuck no. The Mavs would still be tough for us but they are digging their own grave. They don't need any help from the Spurs.

Last year, the Mavs rested their starters on the final game of the season, allowing Golden State to get into the playoffs. The rest is, history. :dizzy

Dirk seems like a good guy maybe if he was 10 years older he could be a Spur.

Spurs don't want to play Warriors in the first round, their homecourt during the playoffs is freakin' amazing. Add to that, streaky teams like the Warriors are dangerous as hell.

Mavs with an 80% Dirk or Rockets or Jazz are the best first round oponents in my opinion.

Again. Why do peeps think we're a bad matchup for GS? They were better last year than this year, and we beat them by 40 and 37 points.

If you have a serious post scorer, you can beat GS in the playoffs.

Dear San Antonio Spurs

I do not recommend you meet B-Diddy, Captain Jack and Monta in the first round of the playoffs. They are not a good matchup for you this year.

Spurs vs Warriors 2008: 0 wins, 2 losses

ps. I didn't say anything about the Jazz, I think Warriors are a favorable matchup for Jazz. :)

I'd think the Spurs would do much better against Houston or a gimpy Dirk in the first round but I suppose we'll see.

i'm watching the suns-nuggetts game and i've come to a conclussion. I want to face denver in the playoffs. their defense sucks, they can't hit a 3, their offense it's just a one on one game (sometimes is iverson and sometimes is anthony) and they are just a bunch of dumb guys playing together with 0 bbIQ. they win games in the regular season just becase they're very physically gifted but they aren't a serious threat for a title contender.

That's the beauty of the packed Western conference. We still have time to tank into the lottery, improve in the draft, and come back next year better than ever!

That shit doesn't fly in San Antonio. You win every game you can to have the highest seed in the playoff bracket. We are the defending World Champions. We have won 4 titles in the last 9 years.
Why the Hell would we play like pussies now to try and get Dallas out of the playoffs ?

We owe them some fucking payback for '06. Next, we need to beat down the Suns and Shaq and then wrap it up with wins over the Hornets and Celtics. That is a CHAMPIONSHIP run !

Bad idea. If we have to face one of the two in the playoffs, I would much rather it be alice, er Dallas.

GS has the potential to beat anyone in the West. Dallas is pretty much done for. Hell, they barely beat the Clippers last night.

don't you realize Dallas is the team we want to play in the 1st round???

they are 0-10 vs. winning teams. They have a huge hole in the middle. and Dirk is still injured. My dream is to play mavs in 1st round. sweep!

The Spurs first priority is to their own success. They need to keep their own momentum going. Fuck the Mavs. They'll have do enough damage to their own playoff hopes in their next 3-5 games.

It would suck if we lost and allowed GS to get the 8th seed and then they get hot and do to us what they did to the mavericks last year.

Bruno

Losing on purpose is a very dangerous game. the west is too tight to calculate seeding/opponents that soon in the season.

However, if Spurs lose tonight, the fact that it also hurts Dallas will sweeten the loss.

Also, no way the mavs beat us in the playoffs this year. They are done and will need to rebuild this offseason.

ChuckD

Injury card already? :D
Well, we were discussing playoff matchups, and if Duncan is out, God forbid, that's a moot point not even worth discussing. With Duncan: 1-1. A close one in Oak and a blowout here.

I'll take GS anyday as a playoff matchup. They're weak in the middle on defense. When they overplay Duncan, Parker and Ginobili slice them up. We're probably the only team in the NBA that can blow them out on a regular basis. Yes, we did it on their floor in late March last year when they were on their playoff tear. Thirty seven points.

Oh, and Duncan never peeled off the sweats in the fourth quarter tonight. The scrubs brought it home and increased the margin.

An interesting thing that was brought up: if the Spurs win 57 games this year, that's 8 years in a row with at least that many wins, a feat never before accomplished in NBA history. We can only lose two more and do that, though.

Dallas just upgraded Dirk's injury to day-to-day today

DALLAS -- The Dallas Mavericks upgraded the injury status of Dirk Nowitzki to day to day on Tuesday, the eve of a pivotal NBA Western Conference game against the Golden State Warriors.

The reigning MVP, who has been out since spraining his left ankle and knee on March 23, would be re-evaluated on Wednesday to see if he can play against the Warriors.

The Mavericks began Tuesday a half-game ahead of Golden State for the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference. The Warriors played San Antonio late Tuesday.

Nowitzki landed awkwardly on his left leg after running to block a shot in a loss to San Antonio. He was diagnosed with a moderate high ankle sprain and a mildly sprained knee. The Mavericks are 2-2 since he was sidelined.

does that mean he'd be in uniform sooner than we expected?
