My friend's son just dropped her lap top and now it won't turn on.

Can it be fixed? Anything she could try to get it working tonight?

She's pretty upset, obviously.

try dropping it again, it might turn on by itself and shut down by itself again :D

The drop test is one of the first steps in any kind of technical support.

try taking off the battery and putting it back on with the adapter plugged in usually works for me

My roommate got it to work by hitting the reset button.

I didn't realize laptops had reset buttons.
